Obama and McCain on immigration

Now we all know how abysmall McCain has been on immigration. Seems that Obama tops him in the "open border" departments.

Obama scores 8% by USBC on immigration issues
McCain scores 18% by USBC on immigration issues

Barack Obama on Immigration
John McCain on Immigration

OnTheIssues.org interprets the 2005-2006 USBC scores as follows:

0%-30%: open-border stance (approx. 197 members)
30%-70%: mixed record on open borders (approx. 70 members)
70%-100%: sealed-border stance (approx. 202 members)
About USBC (from their website, www.usbc.org):
U.S. Border Control, founded in 1988, is a non-profit, tax-exempt, citizen's lobby. USBC is dedicated to ending illegal immigration by securing our nation's borders and reforming our immigration policies. USBC [works with] Congressmen to stop amnesty; seal our borders against terrorism and illegal immigration; and, preserve our nation's language, culture and American way of life for future generations.

Our organization accepts no financial support from any branch of government. All our support comes from concerned citizens who appreciate the work we are doing to seal our borders against drugs, disease, illegal migration and terrorism and wish to preserve our nation's language, culture and heritage for the next generations.

What is your position on the canidates stances on immigration?

Re: Obama and McCain on immigration

Obama obviously doesn't get it.

I rather like McCain's ideas now that he has pledged not to push amnesty. He would have to be held to that and I think the people from both parties can put enough pressure on him to keep him honest.

People seem to think it would be impossible to find and deport several million illegals. In 1955 Eisenhower ordered the deportation of illegal Mexican aliens. Over a million were sent home in less than a year using 1950's technology. It would be rather simple to deport the 2 million criminals McCain mentions in his message. The biggest problem wouldn't be operational but stem from bogus legal objections from the left.

What is your plan to deal with the following:
1) Millions of American citizens who are minors who's parents are illegals
2) The sudden lost of millions in the labor force doing menial jobs with extremely low pay

Kudos to both Obama and McCain for not playing into the hands of the xenophobic populist wings of their own parties. Although it will be tempting to do so in the fall, I think that they'll both avoid it.

Immigration is one issue where both candidates are truly progressive. I think either of them will do the right thing.

So what about those immigrants that did not break the law. How does the idiocy of "progressivism" (read liberal) intend to deal with that.

And how "progressive" is it to have families dieing trying to cross the rio grande or in servitude to coyotes for brining them here?

Why have a lawful immigration plan than a worker caste system which is essentially what your "progressive" status quo maintains.

I'm completely in favor of letting legal immigrants become citizens too.

You're absolutely right. It would be nice if we had some "border patrol" charity groups that handed out water when they spotted someone crossing, instead of "border patrol" hate groups that carry out vigilante justice and try to have them deported back to poverty.

Whatever poor wages and working conditions they face here, they're still better than what they face at home. And it's not a caste system because that implies that A) it's permanent, and B) it's passed from one generation to the next. Neither of those things has to be true. I'm in favor of amnesty for all immigrants currently in the country, as long as a few minimal requirements are met. And it isn't passed from one generation to the next, because their children would be US citizens if they were born here.
