How Do You Feel about a Gov. Christie Bid for President? - Glen Rock, NJ Patch

it looks like one of the conservative media darlings rising righties is heading in the wrong direction as 2012 approaches. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has said that he would NOT be a candidate in 2012 and that looks like a very wise decision since most of the New jersey voters want precious little to do with placing him in the White House.

While Gov. Chris Christie has been adamant that he has no plans to run for president in 2012, results from a new Rutgers-Eagleton Poll suggest that if he did, New Jersey voters would not be pleased. Only 22 percent of registered voters support a 2012 presidential bid by Christie, while 65 percent oppose and 12 percent are unsure. Moreover, while 36 percent of voters think having a governor on the national stage helps New Jersey’s image, 42 percent say it makes no difference and 21 percent say it hurts the state’s image.

Keep in mind folks, these are the people that know him best. And he cannot even get one in four to say to support him running for the White House.

Christie isnt as popular as the media is making him out to be...neither is scott walker and Rick Scott is already in unfavorables here in florida The first thing all 3 of them did when getting in office is give teh wealthy or corporations or both big tax cuts then they all attacked the working class.

rick scott is a crook and a one termer.

uhm he stated he wanted to be governer for a single term, doesn't care about the politics and is doing great work for NJ, how is he "falling fast" when he stated he doesn't want to run?

I agree, I voted for him but what hes done since day one is insane...hes allowing all the insurance companies and utilities to raise rates through the roof...State Farm is raising every form of their home insurance...hurricane etc up to 26% and they dont want to cover sink holes at all anymore.
Florida Public workers make far less than other states FAR LESS and he went right after them AFTER he gave tax cuts to the corporations and now he wants to give ANOTHER tax cut to wealthy and corps....he will have a republican challenge him in the next primary

Lol@ haymarket.

That poll is over a year old. :lamo

Fail.

Here is a more recent poll.

FDU: Christie approval rating at 53% | Politicker NJ

Note his approval rating is higher than obamas.

thank for the eagle eye rev. It shows how fickle the NJ voter is. Fixed it. But the Presidential poll results still stand. Those are right now and current - 2011.

But if you folks want to keep him in Jersey and out of the White House where he could do some real damage, its more than fine by me.

Meh, i view my country and its politicians as something more than a popularity contest.

There are reasons why I hope you are right in some instances.

But it is impossible to separate a politician who needs to be elected and needs to keep the people on his side from their standing in a popularity contest. That is pretty much part an parcel of the electoral process.

I saw a poll a couple of weeks ago that showed Americans don't know who he is.

It is possible that the poll might mean that people in NJ don't want him to run because 1) running a Presidential campaign will take him away from doing work for NJ, and 2) people don't want him to run because they think he's doing a good job and want him to stay. Now, I, personally, think that Christie is awful, and would be happy to see him out of NJ, but I'm just trying to think about this logically.

stupid statement... fickle would be a change in a month, not a year.

I like Christie.

I wouldn't read too much into this article. It's entirely possible that Christie's approval/disapproval has little to do with the reasons NJ residents want or don't want to put him in the White House.

That being said, Rev, I'm not sure where it says that haymarket's poll is over a year old.

Mr Pig Piggy said he doesnt CARE if hes a one term gov...just more bluster from the mouth that cant walk up a short flight of stairs without stopping 3 times...from a load that cant walk from the curb to his office without stopping 5 times.
Mr Pig hasnt cut his pay the HIGHEST PAID GOV in the country hes hasnt mentioned paying for his health plan or cutting his pension and the first thing the load did was cut taxs on the rich and corporations.
New Jerseys Pension fund was the richest in the country had a huge surplus until Christine Todd Whitman stopped paying her HALF into it for the 6 yrs she was gov and the govs that followed...Christie hasnt paid his half for two years either.

So what this poll is telling us is that 65% of New Jersians are desperate for Christie to remain their governor?
