    Is Trump alienating the media?

Surely by now you've seen Trump's latest news conference, or at least parts of it.

Has he succeeded in alienating the fourth estate? If so, will he get away with having done so? just how powerful is the media?

    What do you think?

No, I actually think they're loving him. He allows them to bait him endlessly, and they have succeeded in making him a caricature.

Nope. They had decided that one long ago.

He is good for ratings, and that's for sure.

The media does plenty well to alienate themselves without Trump actually doing anything.

Trump has just rallied the dumb people who weren't paying attention to how ****ty MSM actually is.

The media is acting upset, but laughing all the way to the bank!

And though perhaps unintended (or maybe not!), Trump & the media have a symbiotic relationship!

That's what worries me. If we get through Trump's reign in one piece and return to having a normal, sane president, then overall ratings could go down. And I don't see that ending well.

Re: Is Trump alienating the media?

Andrew Jackson was more authoritarian than Trump. So was Lincoln. Both had more power and loyalty of the other portions of the state. Jackson, for instance, had the army and a lot of popular support so he could simply ignore the SCOTUS. Trump is being challenged by the judicial branch. That won't last after he stacks the court, of course, but given his popularity, he might have a hostile or at least heavily divided legislature by 2018.

The people sanguine about the demise of the US are getting ahead of themselves. The people lamenting our decline are right but not in the way they think. Our government is alive and well unfortunately. The federal government is fine. The culture, however, is eroding fast.

"As noted earlier, what had essentially extricated the Roman Empire from the 'crisis' of the mid-third century was the ruthless commitment to the ideology of the empire by members of the Roman army's officer corps. Over the course of the fifth century, by contrast, the Western Empire came increasingly to rely upon outsiders whose loyalty and commitment were not to Rome but rather to their own..."

    -Peter Sarris

Y'all see any ruthless commitment lately? I don't even see people who can resist a Big Mac

Yes, should Trump succeed in ending illegal immigration and/or bringing back high paying jobs to Americans, the press would have to change their tone a bit. That's a big if, however, and meanwhile, he's not doing himself any good by picking a fight with the media.
