Like religion, politics easily becomes ideological and therefore polarizing, rather than pragmatic. By nature, I'm not ideological - I prefer to look at things from different angles, try to keep an open mind, and accept that there are uncertainties, complexities, and tradeoffs involved in many decisions. But many people take the easy route and join an ideological group in order to have a sense of belonging and ease the burden of having to think for themselves and analyze the issues carefully. History shows that no single ideology ever provides all the "right" answers.

You hit on something here.... ideology dividing the nation. And ideology is rarely a good thing in its effects and impact. It tends to drive people blindly and then what flows from it rarely is what was preached during the idealist phase of spreading it.

Pragmatic and practical is the way to go.

A good friend of mine who is about five years older told me something interesting about that. I remarked that one of the things I find quite strange is when I walk upstairs to get something and then when I arrive forget what it was that I went upstairs for. He laughed and said its going to get worse. I asked him what he meant and he replied that wait until you find yourself in the bathroom and you simply cannot remember why you went in there in the first place.

Thankfully, that state has not arrived yet.

Fair enough. Now watch carefully from where those overly broad generalizations are coming from in the 'news' media, from politicians, and even other forum posters.

Of course I do not agree with that as you put it

The average lib is no more prone to violence than the average conservative

And trumpsters do not hate minorities

But if by the left you mean the news media I think they on the verge of losing all credibility

Which puts the average lib in a tough spot since they get most of their opinions from the liberal news media

I have found that more and more, people are preferring to just name-call rather than debate the issues. This new president is not going to help the issue.

Kelly ann conway more than held her own against chuck todd who completely lost his cool.

Conway is a part of the problem, not that I like what the msm has become. There is a reason I got rid of my tv.
