Donald Trump needs to say this opening up tonights debate:

Tonight I stand before you a man ashamed of himself, ashamed of his history, and ashamed of what I have brought before the American people. My remarks as heard on the Friday tape are inexcusable and should be roundly condemned. And I do not blame anyone for not wanting to support me for them. I am guilty of rude and crude and lewd behavior and I will atone for that.

Many have speculated that tonight I will attack Bill and Hillary Clinton about their marriage and other family issues. I will not do so. And I pledge to not do so at any point in the next four weeks.

I ask the American people to consider that I am a changed man from the boorish lout you saw and heard on that tape. I have traveled this great nation and met hundreds of thousands of Americans who have great love for this nation and who are greatly concerned about this nations problems. We need somebody who can bring change and I believe I am that person.

Lets discuss the issues before this nation. Lets discuss the issues that impact the lives of the American people in their daily struggle to make ends meet and plan a future for their children.

I am sorry for my words... for my behavior and for my offending the American people and particularly women. And I hope you can allow me to move on and help our nation move forward.

This needs to be the equal of the Richard Nixon Checkers speech. It saved Nixon and while this is far far worse, it might give Trump at least a fighting chance to regain something of his tarnished reputation and his campaign.

There's a better a chance that instead of shaking Hillary's hand tonight Trump grabs her by something else

Too little, too late. There is not much Trump can do to recover from being... Trump.

It isn't that difficult of a thing for him to do. The problem is he surrounds himself with similar personalities so who is going to write that letter? Roger Ailes, Giuliani, Christie, Bannon? He's going to have to hire someone outside of the campaign.

I cannot disagree with you. I look at this as Trump is in the water and feet away from being swept over the Niagara Falls onto the rocks below. He might have one chance to grab onto a boulder and wait there to be saved. yes - its a real longshot where the odds seem overwhelming - but it might be his only shot.

And he owes it to the voters who put him there and to the party who put him there to do every single thing he can to try to turn this around.

And even if he says something like that do you really think it would be believable?

Too little, too late. There is not much Trump can do to recover from being... Trump.

He is only sorry he got caught on camera. Prior to the release of the video not once has he ever said that he was remorseful about his lewd past behavior.

I don't for one minute believe this is just his past behavior. He is what he is. He was 59 years old at the time not 17 in high school and most sexual predators never change. Even when he is 80 in a nursing home he will be grabbing at the crotch of female health care workers.

And even if he says something like that do you really think it would be believable?

And there it is.

Problem is, Trump has said stuff almost this bad during the course of his actual campaign. Anyone who's been paying attention knows he's not a "changed man." He's just confirming what we already suspected was there: rampant, predatory misogyny, seeming to extent all the way to him finding it acceptable to assault women himself.

This really wasn't news to anyone who's been paying attention. But he had at least a small amount of plausible deniability to the dimmer of the undecided voters. Now he doesn't.

No one who wasn't already giving him a pass is going to believe an apology from him.

Too late, Trump has already doubled down on the, "Well yeah what I did was bad but BILL CLINTON DID WORSE!!". The only thing that man is sorry about is that it got aired. He isn't sorry for making the comments and he sure in the hell isn't humbled by those comments being aired. The guy is a class A Douche-bag.

I bet Hillary supporters are on their knees hoping Hillary won't be confronted with her own words and actions.

This just smacks of extreme desperation, and I really do appreciate the belly laugh it inspired.

Well, when he looses, he really can't blame anyone but himself. However, fat chance of that happening, him placing the blame correctly, I mean. I think it would be great if no-one tuned in at all when he makes the concession speech. Can you imagine Trump at a podium and no one showing up? That attention hound just might go insane.

And even if he says something like that do you really think it would be believable?

The great thing about politics is, it skews people's senses because in many cases they want to believe.

Actually it's the only way out for Trump, because trying to convince people you're the lesser of the scumbags is a hard battle to win.

If he headlines the debate with something like this, then talks issue and no personal the whole debate and Hillary keeps try g to bring it up, she appears shallow and it's a way DT can flip her own game back on her.

I don't think he'll do it, but if I were Kellyanne Conway I'd be trying, actually I'd outright resign if he doesn't at least agree to the apology

his people don't need it, wouldn't like it, and in fact could turn on him

in this very forum their defense of Trump is but Clinton (yada yada yada) it's always about Clinton not about logic, or defense of Trump, it's almost amusing if it wasn't so pathetically indicative of a certain mentality

I think it's sad that it's likely the e-mails released by Wikileaks won't be mentioned at all, while this pointless and irrelevant nonsense will be center attention. This whole election from not only the candidates people decided upon, but how they went about looking at issues that are important only shows how stupid the American people are.

agreed

wait

how can that be

No, it's just wishful thinking of people desperate to keep Hillary from having to answer to her own actions and deeds.

Hillary's MSM partners can follow orders and try to make Trumps comments from 11 year ago an issue, but Hillary is faced with a major credibility challenge.

This counter offensive she launched to try and deflect from the extremely damaging revelations she has been desperate to hide are a big deal. It's not only the revelations, but the effort to hide from them that voters deserve to hear her explain. She won't, because she can't.

Thinking that can be avoided by suggesting Trump needs to be contrite is laughable in light of the despicable actions of Hillary and the global machine behind her candidacy.

The whole public and private policy thing I doubt she could defend. I also doubt she could defend her plans to use executive orders to get around congress on gun control either. With this diversion created by her friends in the MSM though she won't have too. I love how no liberal on this board has even noticed how the media released all this stuff right at the moment when damaging e-mails were going to start coming out every week. The media couldn't possibly be more transparent in their efforts to protect Hillary at this point.

What a #nevertrump person thinks Trump needs to say, and that which he may actually need to say, are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

He's done. There is nothing he can say that will save him.

I 99% agree. I was merely speaking about that 1% - if it is that large - chance that may be still available to him.

What a #nevertrump person thinks Trump needs to say, and that which he may actually need to say, are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

What do you disagree with that I wrote for him?

He's done. There is nothing he can say that will save him.

I'm confused. Has this suddenly changed your mind about who to vote for?

When this story was first posted in the forum here were your thoughts:

Voting has already begun. Ballots are printed. Chill. They aren't going to replace Trump. And further, this, too, shall pass.

Horrific? What are we ten years old? Men have been talking amongst themselves like this forever. It's lockroom talk. It doesn't belong in polite society. But I guess all's fair in love, war and politics.

I tend to agree with these first two comments, and was surprised at the sudden turn of opinion in your most recent comments.

He only made a lewd comment, he didn't say he actually did the thing he said that so offended women. While he did admit to attempted adultery, many people engage in that sort of thing...from active "swingers" with the tacit approval or willing participation of their spouses, to sneaky men and women who don't want a divorce but do want something outside the marital bed.

I can't vote for Hillary because this faux pas of Trump's from back in 2005 does not excuse all her faults which prevented me from voting for her in the first place. I can't waste my vote on a third party candidate unless that candidate shows he/she could REALLY win. I'll still vote Trump simply because there is no other viable alternative.

What are you going to do?

What do you disagree with that I wrote for him?
It was pretty obvious by pointing out you are actually on the opposite end of the spectrum in regards to what he "needs" to do.
