Tonight opening remarks from Trump could save him

Tonight I stand before you a man ashamed of himself, ashamed of his history, and ashamed of what I have brought before the American people. My remarks as heard on the Friday tape are inexcusable and should be roundly condemned. And I do not blame anyone for not wanting to support me for them. I am guilty of rude and crude and lewd behavior and I will atone for that.

Many have speculated that tonight I will attack Bill and Hillary Clinton about their marriage and other family issues. I will not do so. And I pledge to not do so at any point in the next four weeks.

I ask the American people to consider that I am a changed man from the boorish lout you saw and heard on that tape. I have traveled this great nation and met hundreds of thousands of Americans who have great love for this nation and who are greatly concerned about this nations problems. We need somebody who can bring change and I believe I am that person.

Lets discuss the issues before this nation. Lets discuss the issues that impact the lives of the American people in their daily struggle to make ends meet and plan a future for their children.

I am sorry for my words... for my behavior and for my offending the American people and particularly women. And I hope you can allow me to move on and help our nation move forward.

This needs to be the equal of the Richard Nixon Checkers speech. It saved Nixon and while this is far far worse, it might give Trump at least a fighting chance to regain something of his tarnished reputation and his campaign.

So basically, what Trump needs to do in order to save his campaign is to go out to the middle of the desert and do four hundred hits of LSD, thereby permanently changing the physical structure of his brain into that of a completely different human being.

It's not impossible. But I don't consider it very likely.

The problem with Trump is that outside of his avid supporters, most people looked upon him as a 5th grade schoolyard bully who threw temper tantrums like a spoiled three year old. Anyone whoever said anything bad about him he always felt the need to tear into and trash them. Many time he gave the appearance of running for a reality TV host than for the highest office in the land. All of this and more may have finally caught up with him. There may be no saving of him. But then again...

There is a reason Hillary Clinton couldn't increase her lead over this call him whatever you want more than two to four points. That says as much about Hillary Clinton as it does Donald Trump. No one trust either of these two outside of their avid supporters, the vast major of Americans think both are liars and neither belongs in the Oval Office. The dislike factor is near 60% of all Americans for both. Any other Democrat would be 15 points ahead of Trump by now and the fat lady would have sung making November 8 a matter of formality only. Only the fact Hillary Clinton was Trump's opponent gave him a chance. Yep, this whole thing says as much about Hillary as The Donald.

It is even more funny given the fact that Trump already apologized (which of course would never satisfy the #nevertrump camp), and needs not apologize any more.

It does NOT matter that I am on the opposite end of the spectrum. What was wrong with my advice to Trump? Why are you impotent to say so?

Trumps so called apology was a mere springboard to an attack on the Clintons. It was phony... it was scripted ... it was probably written for him ... and it was pure crap.

To be honest, if his answer on the whole ***** tape question had been done the way I suggested it would have taken him further. As it was, he probably shored up his base and prevented any more bleeding. But he did nothing to appeal to groups he was not winning anyways before this.
 
He just took a page from Pence: try to lie more slowly.


Except it was all over the place and everything was some ADHD-addled lie or exaggeration or another. He just rambled on for 90 minutes about how everything sucks, not offering one SINGLE solution.
