No, but the Bush Administration allowed Obama to run as an empty suit with zero credentials and an "I'm not Bush" campaign.

A German Shepherd could have won in '08 if it had registered as a democrat.

If I had to give this country a birth of Idiocracy moment, I'd say it was 2004 when at that point:

1. We all knew Bush/Cheney had lied about WMDs in Iraq
2. Iraq was by then one of the worst foreign policy disasters in American history
3. The numerous scandals surrounding the Iraq invasion were in full swing
4. Conservatives actually bought into the idea that a decorated Vietnam war veteran who had killed several enemy while in the process of saving the lives of two other American soldiers was the coward while the doofus sitting in office that had gone AWOL from the Texas Air National Guard was the hero.

5. Bush/Cheney still got reelected; and THAT was the moment this country proved itself to be worth of being called "Idiot America."

'08 already set the bar for Idiocracy comparisons; Obama supporters saying "he's black, he's gonna give me a free car and pay my rent if I vote for him". And then there was Sarah Palin, who looked great in a tight dress but sounded like a candidate who should be running for vice president of the Wisconsin PTA.
