The California Presidential Primary is June 7. It is possible that it will all be over by then - certainly for the Democrats as it looks virtually impossible that Clinton will not have the necessary delegates by then and could well have things sewn up before May ever gets here.

California has a closed primary system. However, remember the date of May 23 when any voter can change their party affiliation and vote in which ever primary they want to vote in.

California is the biggest prize of them all having 172 convention delegates and is a winner take all state.

I wonder if Trump is close at that time, but has not yet won the majority of delegates necessary, if democrats will actively pursue a strategy of destroying the republican party by voting for him in large numbers so as to create the weakest possible Republican candidate who will split the party and cause down ticket losses?

Two very different types of Dems could vote:
1- blue collar Dems who actually and truly favor Trump and want to vote for him
2- Dems who hate Trump but recognize he is the weakest candidate the GOP has and the damage he will do to the Republican Party

Both numbers could be significant.

The idea may too simply too good to pass up.

CA is a closed primary--"no party preference" voters and DEMs will have to re-register as a GOP--DEMs, however, are allowing "no party preference" voters to pull a DEM ballot.

DEMs should be very careful what they wish for--Trump will rewrite the electoral college map .

Cruz is much weaker than Trump....so it kinda blows that strategy.

I agree that Cruz would also lose big and probably cost the GOP the Senate also. We are on the same page there.

But the bonus of Trump is a possible split of the party and its destruction.

I think either way it is a win/win for us. The GOP has become a joke this primary season and it will carry on through the fall. Their party is in such disarray right now that it is likely that they will lose the Senate and the Dems will keep the Presidency as well. The only question is where does the GOP evolve from here? What will arise out of the ashes?
