I'm a Republican and I don't like Trump

And there are many more who don't, and some that do, who are still voting for him anyway. Sorry. Hey if it helps, I detested Reagan when he ran.
Could be worse:

I *liked* him AND *voted* for him of my own volition!

First term, anyway.

None of my friends I know like Trump. Honestly if he gets the ticket I might become a Democrat (at least for this election haha).
Geez - is this a weird election, or what?

I was a Dem for much of my life (no longer), but if Hillary gets the nod I just might vote Trump! (I'll pass on joining the GOP, though)

Oh, I have friends that like Trump; and they're Dems!

This really is a strange season ...

You can thank Obama for Donald Trump.

Not just Obama, though that's a small part of it. Trump supporters are sick of handing the establishment a free meal ticket and then not getting invited to the party.

Throw the bastards out and start over works for me.

I don't care for him either. As I stated above, you can thank Obama for the rise of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Other than that, I just don't understand it.

Not a problem, I sure understand, he was compelling as a candidate. But I was teaching in CA back then and he bankrupted my retirement and dumped us all into SS to balance a budget. Not only that, but really, the whole state knew him a Clayfoot Reagan. The thing with the redwoods, the fact he paid no taxes in the same year he was telling us all that "taxes should hurt". A long list that didn't leave me with a good feeling about the guy.

Fact is the GOP has put forth way too many moderate presidential candidates who were losers.

Most of the people who call themselves Republicans want to win this time around

Is that why McCain went to great lengths to shed his "maverick" image and kow-tow the far right?

Is that why Romney didn't run as the moderate republican governor of MA, but instead ran as a "severe conservative"?

Is that why the GOP called the Conservative Heritage Fund's health plan from the 90s a "Socialist" plan once Obama backed it in 2008?

At the rate I have seen self-identified conservatives dismiss anyone who isn't as far right as them as "RINOs", I'm thinking we have maybe only 5 or 6 actual real conservatives alive in this country of 315,000,000+

You conservatives on the far right.....you need to wrap your head around the idea that you are actually rather extreme in your views, and that candidates as extreme as you have no chance of winning. Both parties need to vie for the middle. The far-left and far-right aren't going to support their opposites. Demanding only far-far-far right candidates (aka, not "RINO" ....aka never once in their life said anything against anyone else on the right..) is basically masochism.

Cruz is easy to understand. He's the Christian theocrat. Because of that he will get the evangelist vote. That also limits his upside.

Trump is the none of the above candidate.

In terms of my regrets, I was thinking more specifically of Reaganomics and the War on Drugs.

He was charismatic and likable, though. I'll give him that.

I agree with your assessment of Sen Cruz & his limitations.

But Mr. Trump is doing reasonably well with the Evangelicals, too!

I don't see either of them beating a democrat.....and that's the other half of the problem for me.

True.

He'll probably do well with evangelists if he becomes the nominee.

I see Trump beating Hillary. Non Hillary supporters are just as fed up with the system as the non establishment supporters.

To me that seems to be the Sanders appeal. But Sanders is playing against a stacked deck and a cheating dealer.

And of course there will be some of those Sanders voters who will be so pissed about a Hillary nomination, they'll vote Trump.

Exactly. To paraphrase another Clinton "it's the establishment stupid".

Obama was a senator.

Trump has no political office to his record.

Obama was a community organizer with the worst attendance record in Congress.

Trump has a record running stuff.

You can thank Obama for Donald Trump.

No, you can thank the idiot "stupid voters" who bought into the rock star image. Trump is doing no more than Obama in creating an image for people to hang onto.
To be fair, the blame lies with the American people who rolled over when Bill Clinton was excused for lying under oath. From that point on every candidate knew that with the right fanfare you can sell the American public a **** pile and call it something else and the American public will buy it. If you want politicians to do what they promise, you have to hold them to account.

The truth is both sides are afraid to try to think outside the box and why should they. The same old dog and pony show has been working, Obama got away with HIS fraud, so of course a real estate hustler is going to convince some of those "stupid voters" there really can be "change".

Every president since Carter has promised change. Yet, you still have a corrupt donation system, corrupt congressmen selling their votes, you still have illegal aliens and all the rest. The election of the huckster Obama was just another step into the gutter

Trump has no political office to his record.

And that is winning him the nomination. Folks like that he doesn't work in the system but that he knows how to work the system.

Trump is not a candidate because he can govern, he is one because he is the embodiment of those who want to sabotage government.

I live in a pretty conservative place and I don't know anyone who likes Trump and very few who are going to vote for him if he is the GOP nominee.

That's what I'm getting. I've been asking my clients political questions a bit more than usual and the conversations have generally been the same. The consensus seems to be "we're screwed" and "there's nobody to vote for". That's coming from folks on both sides of the aisle too.

I have run into a few folks around town who are supporting Trump but I don't think I've seen so much as one single bumper sticker.

Sad but true. Good post.

Not sabotage, make it work for the people who it was intended to work for. But hey, from your view that might look like sabotage.

The bumper sticker comment made me think of something that occurred to me last night - if Trump becomes president and they name a school, after him, will the school have to pay royalties for using the trademarked brand name?
