What If You Were Elected President?

For me very simple.

1. install a single term limit for all elected offices
2. Move the funding of the federal government from individuals and businesses to the states. Have the fed answer to the states rather than the people.
3. Move all federal activites except those in the departments of defense, state, justice and treasury to the states, the private sector or the trash can.

Get rid of citizens united, make campaign donations illegal for state and federal offices, and set up general election funds, which donations can be made to, if one feels the need...but will mostly be funded by tax revenue. To pay for it, I'm sure I could find a few things to cut, lol. Probably start by cutting pay for senators.

And that's it. All these other things are pie in the sky until the house and the senate are full of people who got the job on merit, and who want the job not because it's an easy way to make 160+k per year, because they genuinely want to be a public SERVANT.

I'm sure this has been done before, but I've never seen it.

If you were suddenly elected President of the United States, what would your top three goals be and what steps would you take to accomplish those goals? Your goals and steps must be Constitutional. To keep it simple, lets only use Supreme Court precedent. You only get 4 years in office. What would the country look like after you left office?

Oh I made a thread of this about a year ago in the another part of the forum, anyway, here goes. ;)

If I became POTUS I would:

- Legalize all drugs, stop the drug war
- abrogate all military defense treaties and abandon all foreign bases and return the troops home
- adopt a position of neutrality all over the world
- stop all foreign aid except for disaster relief
- stop the war on terror as well as any other foreign wars we are involved in

- dismantle all federal agencies except:
FBI- no law enforcement arm, just advisory only
CIA- more civilian oversight
Secret Service- I need it for protection
CDC- for pandemics
Census bureau- for stats
NASA- keep it but privatize it, same with the US postal service
National weather service, patents office,
Keep the military but for defense only- no troops allowed in foreign countries without declaration of war
FEMA
ICE- but severely curtailed
US Marshals
VHA
Fed Courts- but not allowed to rule on conflicting state laws
Supreme Court

Dismantle social security, medicare/medicaid, stop all farm and business subsidies, get rid of minimum wage and all other forms of entitlements

EDIT: Get rid of the income tax as well.

All this ought to put the country back on its feet in no time.

My goals would be..............

1. Put together a assembly of the best people involved with (Financial - Engineering - Managing - College & Vocational - Experienced Trade Workers - Farmers - Logistics) for a continuous forum on the exchange of ideas for common sense solutions in regards to finance, building, transport, and growing.

2. Require that congress allow only single item bills to pass through. No pork & hidden add on's that are currently added on just before the clock strikes midnight. Any addendum must be specifically related to the subject of the bill. (Mia Love)

3. Put together a assembly of the best minds from the educational/academia/ (Teachers - Administrators - Counselors - Social Workers - Business - Construction) for a continuous forum for the exchange of ideas for common sense solutions in regards to tailoring education to meet real world demands.

4. Put together a assembly of the best minds to help streamline & simplify the bureaucracy in the medical field. Patients and doctors are in a everyday battle against the government, and corporate red tape. A large part of a patients dollar is wasted on administration, Big Pharma, and lawyers.

5. Pull the USA out of NATO.

6. Rewrite the "War Powers Act. No president should have the right to kill our kids, or anyone else's kids without definite & undeniable acts of hostility against America.

7. Work towards restructuring welfare as a "work for benefits" or "training/education for benefits"..... even training from home so mom's can be with the children, or moms that have limited access to transportation. People need a hand up, not hand outs.

8. Work towards revising sentencing laws for non violent criminals by eliminating automatic sentence time lengths, with the exception of habitual offenders. Judge's generally have a better sense of a person's character than some governor who is trying to win a election by being tough on crime.

9. Require that all immigrants be vetted.

10. Work towards a "fair tax" or a "pay as you go tax" Eliminate the income tax fiasco.

If I were elected president...I would attempt to GREATLY EXPAND government rather than contract it.

EVERYONE would be guaranteed a job with government at a reasonable rate of pay...and any who are unproductive will serve the government in a new position I would establish: Stay-out-of-the-way specialist. They would still be paid.

Taxes would be MUCH higher (in a progressive way) on income...with total tax exemption for the first $30 - $40 thousand...but with much higher progression on income above that amount...and with the "no tax" threshold being adjusted yearly based on cost of living and perhaps even cost of living including the factor of geography.

I would probably increase the federal estate tax appreciably on any amount over a million or two per immediate family member...almost to the point of confiscatory proportions. I would come from a position that wealth should not be perpetuated. In tandem with that...I would work it to where no money could escape this provision by having it taken outside the country.

I doubt I would be elected running on a platform of bigger government and greatly increased taxes.

You don't feel the Bern? You would certainly win the "stay out of the way" vote which is quite a bit larger than "the rich" vote. Promising folks a "fair share" of the income/wealth of others is much more popular than you may realize. You might be asked to be more specific about your tax rate structure but if you can convince enough folks that only those making more than they do will be forced to sacrifice for the good of the "stay out of the way" parasites it could be sold.

The USSR did that too and look how they ended up...

The government is already full of the stay out of the way types.

Could be.

If I were elected president...I would attempt to get as many as possible on the government payroll...and for the ones who are incompetent and lazy...provide them jobs in the "stay out of the way" sector.

I think things would work out for the better. Services would be better with the lazy and incompetent out of the way...and lots and lots of money for spending in the private sector. Lots of people out there would be getting very rich...and all it would cost them would be to see that everyone else has enough plus.

Probably would be better, though, if I were elected DICTATOR. Presidents just don't get as much done as dictators.

Rome used to use the "elected dictator" to excellent advantage.

Would this be their option? Could they just sign up for it, or would they have to "prove" they're lazy by doing nothing first?

One thing I would do is deal with copyright law where artist are more important than the corporation. Secondly I'd do trickle up.

What would trickle up exactly?

Combination of both.

If someone says they are lazy and incompetent...they go to the "stay out of the way" group.

If someone proves to be lazy or incompetent...they get sent to the "stay out of the way" group...with an option to enter programs designed to help them stop being lazy...and stop being incompetent. There are plenty of jobs that not especially competent people can perform. There are none for lazy people. They will be paid for doing their part in staying out of the way.

In any case, by spending what they are paid, they are helping the economy.

Would they be paid the same as others who do work productively?

Would they be paid the same as others who do work productively?

No.

Everyone would be an employee of the government...and earn the minimum government wage.

The "stay out of the way" people will earn that amount.

The people actually able to make a contribution will earn more.

How much more?

More. That can be figured out based on the work done.

But one of the important jobs will be the one the "stay out of the way" group will do...which is to "stay out of the way."

If you are going to pay me even if I am lazy, why don't I just not show up ever?

You cannot fire me since everyone is guaranteed a job.

Exactly.

That is what I want you to do...to stay out of the way.

I would appoint a wise jurist to the Supreme Court, someone who actually understands the U.S. Constitution and the people it was written to serve.

Good God. You are right you wouldn't be elected.

Does "stay out of the way" have any specific criteria?

Nope. Just stay out of the way. Do not do any work. Let people who are competent and willing do the work.

I love it...but you will not be elected in our lifetimes, I am afraid. Most people are emotionally attached to either big welfare and/or BIG military.
That's why were I elected POTUS I would just give up, stack the Fed with cronies, get them to print me up a trillion dollars, resign and start my own little country.

Btw, with no income tax, how do you pay for everything? Tariffs?

I figure a flat tax purely to fund the military and infrastructure ought to do it. At least, it ought to be very low since I have eliminated most of the federal expense budget pie with the elimination of SS and medicare/medicaid as well as drastically cut military expenditures...

English is the American language. While I have nothing against people speaking whatever language they wish here, English should be the only language used in schools and other places, except for when older kids are required to learn another language. We shouldn't have to change ourselves to accommodate people that speak another language. They need to learn OUR language and not expect us to accommodate theirs.

Yes, but he went way farther with this remark: "3. Speak English when in America".
