Say it ain't so, Marco.

Schlafly to Rubio: Lying About Amnesty in Spanish Disqualifies You from the Presidential Race

...Rubio said Obama’s executive amnesty “can’t be terminated because there are already people benefiting from it.”

Rubio’s statement was made in Spanish on the Spanish-language network Univision, which is reason enough to eliminate him from serious consideration. When somebody is running for president of the United States, why should we have to get somebody to translate his remarks into English?

Apparently he says something completely different in English.

Rubio countered: "No, because if you look at the quote, and it's very specific. And, it says blanket amnesty, I do not support blanket amnesty … ." The back and forth between Rubio and Kelly continued.

Did Marco Rubio flip flop on amnesty? | PolitiFact Florida

That's different alright. Rubio got some 'splain'n to do.

This keeps biting him and he keeps doing it. I listened to him on a talk show. He said he wasn't for blanket amnesty and then offered his solution, which was blanket amnesty.

This is not the year to try double-talk. Cruz and Trump are going to pounce on this.

big difference between saying you don't support something and saying that something can't be terminated.

lol...isn't it an Obama executive action we are talking about here? If Rubio becomes president he could totally terminate it in one stroke of the pen.

What he said was he isn't for blanket amnesty, but for amnistia cobija.... :peace

well he could do it legally but I think he's referring to how practically difficult it would be to achieve.

he's obviously speaking to two different audiences in these situations, and he's obviously chosen his words carefully. I don't think this is a clear cut case of flip flopping though - I will concede that this seems to be an issue that Rubio has a tough time pleasing his party on, however. I guess it depends on what you think he means when he says he "doesn't support" blanket amnesty.

is the executive order blanket amnesty, anyway?

Important not to be fooled by lying politicians. Anything other than immediate deportation is amnesty.

Right. Double-talk. As I stated in one of my previous posts, this is not the year to try that. Trump and Cruz will be all over him for this inconsistency.

well we can agree to disagree. I don't think it's double talk at all. you can choose your words carefully to cater to a particular audience without being dishonest or engaging in double talk. I do it all the time. it's part of being a good communicator.

You disagree or you wish to avoid the inconvenient truth?

just wondering what the goal of that post was, since you obviously weren't trying to bring any new ideas or information into the discussion. it was essentially a bumper sticker slogan.

True as a child the way I spoke to my parents was way different than how I spoke to my friends.

Why do Americans hate bilingual people so much?

You're wrong. Rubio presents many harsh sounding ideas for disposition of illegals, but none include deportation. His intended result is what I posted. Americans overwhelmingly want illegal aliens out of the United States.

no I'm not wrong. you came in and posted nonsense about "blarrrgh deport them all!!! this is amnesty". the word "amnesty" gets thrown around like a rag doll these days. it means different things to different people. your post was absolutely, utterly meaningless.

No, Americans overwhelmingly want illegals deported. Them's the facts. That's why Rubio has to lie about his intentions.

...sort of. He goes to length to point out that a "blanket amnesty" means "everyone", while he is kicking out a significant portion of people (those who haven't been here long enough, those with a criminal record, etc).

Then they can answer to the amnesty in their background and plans as well.

Every single R candidate is in favor of some form of amnesty. Rubio gets hit on it because of his Gang of 8 background, and because this "not blanket amnesty" gig is obviously an attempt to sidestep the charge by playing semantics.

That's an interesting claim. Can you point to polling demonstrating that the overwhelming majority of Americans want 12 million people rounded up and forcibly deported, inevitably including the unconstitutional rounding up and deporting of American citizens?

I don't doubt that he is being singled out.

Since when does rounding up illegal immigrants include deporting American citizens?!?!?!

Holy strawman! your argument is going completely off the rails here. Even though Ray is wrong your point is now bonkers.

I agree, it's not realistic to deport 12 million people. But, this is the bed the GOP rhetoric made for itself. So, I am more than a little interested to see how they get out of it.

This is inaccurate. Rubio proposes deportation for those who overstay visas (which is half of our incoming illegals), any who have committed crimes, and any who haven't been here long enough. Additionally those who refuse the requirements (pay a fine, learn English, undergo a background check) will be subject to deportation. He simply doesn't propose it for 12 million people en masse, many of whom have children who are American citizens.

Many of them have dependent children who were born here, ergo American citizens.
