Donald Trump, as I tell anyone who asks, defies virtually every political rule I thought I knew.

There's no better encapsulation of Trump's up-is-down-and-down-is-up effect on presidential politics than a new number from the just-released NBC/Wall Street Journal poll.

The question asked is a simple one: Could you see yourself supporting [fill in the blank candidate] for the Republican nomination for president? When NBC/WSJ first asked GOP voters that question about Trump last March, fewer than one in four (23 percent) said they could see themselves voting for him.

To say that things have changed since then is an understatement on the level of saying Tom Brady is a pretty decent quarterback. Witness this chart built by the indispensable Philip Bump.

Once again Trump is defying expectations.

God help the Republican Party if Trump gets the nomination.
Even God couldn't help the US if he got elected.

If we can survive Obama we can survive Trump.

As long as we remain a free country the American people will find a way to survive, and thrive, no matter what gets thrown their way.

I really dont understand the Donald. It still just amazes me, I figured his sophmoric political incorrectness wouul make him popular for a week with the NASCAR Republicans and then the adults would take the party back over. Where the hell are the adult Republicans?

For me................I prefer a tad more than just surviving............but then different folks have different needs and values.....what the hey!

Not the same. Obama was a mole with a hair growing out of it, Trump would be a malignant tumour.

It's looking more and more like both could possibly happen.

Damn. What does it take to become President of the United States these days? Celebrity, and a trash-TV familiarity with playing to the lowest common denominator?
The GOP is the party of William F. Buckley, fercryingoutloud. What happened?

Not listening to Faux Noise...............who changed the channel and become independents.................Lord Save Us From Your Followers

Aren't you the one who gave us a dissertation on "New York values"? Maybe it's just me but I always thought that the root of those values was that New Yorkers always found a way to succeed. I mean, I'm from upstate so that stuff is all foreign to me but I always kind of figured that "**** you" was just another way of saying "You don't think I can do that? I'll show you!!"

I guess I was wrong.

Don't look at me. I'm just as surprised by all this as you are.

YOU BE AN APPLEKNOCKER?...............:2wave:

What I said about those so-called NY values is they represent the values of the majority of the folks who populate NY and are from the best and brightest of 50 states...........which are the values yall taught them..............all those good old fashion hard working go to church family folks...........

I have always wondered why folks who know little to zip about NY and the folks who live there have such a low opinion of their best and brightest yall sent to the big city?

That perception is extremely misguided.

Tell that to the people taking the poles. It isn't my perception. However, we are 9+ months away, so anything can happen, and current optics (what it's looking like) do not dictate future events.

Funny thing is, from what I've been reading he's not at all conservative but he's supported by very conservative people.
I hope someone else gets the GOP nomination if Clinton gets the Democratic nod. Any other Democrat and I hope Trump is at the plate.

I think it all started when TV moved the NEWS DEPARTMENT to becoming a "profit center" with the invention of news-ertainment................

You must remember the Action Reporter who rushed into the gritty city streets to ask.............

How does it feel to be run down by the city bus?...............Ahhhh those sweet memories of Channel 7's Geraldo Rivera cutting edge news reports................

Let's celebrate the beginning and ultimate victor of news reporting........... ignorance

It appears the Donald is a better politician than some imagined.

Well then call off the primaries and elections, we just need to jump to the finish line declare The Donald Emperor For Life and get ready to follow The Leaders Edicts. No thanks, I will pass and wait for the system to run its course. So let us know when the Donald wins the GOP Nomination and then we can discuss, until then I will remind you that all polls are suspect except for the one that takes place in Nov.

Nonsense. GW Bush taught us the damage a bad President can do in SPADES. Trump could be even worse although that would be a stretch. Most of us don't want to lose another decade treading water.

People who have been listening to me and people like me for months are not surprised. There was always the assumption from many that ceilings and floors of support for people "like him" means that he cant go anywhere. Educated people however are well aware that capable politicians can move those ceilings and floors.

Far too many people source their information poorly. Knowing who to listen to is a part of education, and not that many people have it, sorry to say.

It's wake up time baby!

The only polls that really count are the ones that voters will be going to in November,

*COUGH* and you are talking education?

Donald Trump's support comes from every Republican ideology but not every class - LA Times

Trump leads in the high school or less category!

Now your 5% you claimed is what?

God help the Republican Party if Trump gets the nomination.
Even God couldn't help the US if he got elected.

That is what they also said about the TITANIC. Even God could not sink this ship.

I can see you do not have much faith by that statement.

We will get along just fine.

No temporary resident at 1500 Pennsylvania Avenue can destroy us.

Many have tried, but we are still here.
