Speechwriter for George W Bush blasts Trump

This column is a good read for every political persuasion.

"Party loyalty has limits. ... Mr. Trump has altered the political equation because he has altered the moral equation."

Bush, let me think. Bush.... Oh yeah, that guy that hired Rumsfeld and Cheney. I am not surprised a Bush staffer would bash Trump. I would be more surprised if he didn't. I am not wild about Trump but I am also not very trusting of someone from the Bush clan. Never trust someone that says, "Trust me."

Agreed, Not surprising but 'start'? The Bush camp has been in attack mode for 6 months and accomplished zip.

Bush wants a graceful way 'out'. He is now toast. Trying to exit without further humiliation. As big a story as Trump's dominance has been Jeb's abject failure. Homer Simpson would have done better with the infrastructure, establishment support and two Presidents in the family.

Ironic is that they used to say Jeb was the smart one in that family.

Who said "Trust me?" It's not in the column.

I was using that as an example of a statement that I would not trust. Just the fact that he wrote the article he wants readers to trust his opinion, which I do not. I don't trust his bias and motivation for writing the article.

Speechwriter for George W. Bush? You mean was he part of the team that turned torture into "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques" and helped write the justifications for unlimited detainment without charges at Guantanamo Bay. This guy is complaining about altered moral equations? Trump must be right about something.

The fact that he worked for a bunch of assholes doesn't prove that he always has to be wrong.

With that out of the way it's time to pick apart the article...

There are many reasons to abstain from voting for Mr. Trump if he is nominated, starting with the fact that he would be the most unqualified president in American history. Every one of our 44 presidents has had either government or military experience before being sworn in. Mr. Trump, a real estate mogul and former reality-television star, hasn’t served a day in public office or the armed forces.
The quality of said experience matters. Some of it more than others. George Bush was a governor and he was a terrible president. Eisenhower never served in office but was a military man: He was the greatest Republican president in the past 70 years.

During the course of this campaign he has repeatedly revealed his ignorance on basic matters of national interest — the three ways the United States is capable of firing nuclear weapons (by land, sea and air), the difference between the Quds Force in Iran and the Kurds to their west, North Korea’s nuclear tests, the causes of autism, the effects of his tax plan on the deficit and much besides.
And John McCain was touted for his foreign policy experience despite saying that terrorists were crossing the IRAQ/PAKISTAN border (a thing that doesn't exist) and saying that the Sunni and Shia would not fight each other (these people have been fighting each other for over 1000 years). Bush was and is an idiot. JEB and DUBYA both are. Sarah Palin is also a walking flub.

public relations stunts.
Remember when George Stood atop the rubble? At least Trump isn't standing on the gravesite of dead American's to garner support. Speaking of bold pronouncedments, it was DUBYA who allowed THE #1 terrorist in the world to escape Tora Bora despite saying he'd be caught dead or alive.

Mr. Trump’s legendary narcissism would be comical were it not dangerous in someone seeking the nation’s highest office — as he demonstrated when he showered praise on the brutal, anti-American president of Russia, Vladimir V. Putin, responding to Mr. Putin’s expression of admiration for Mr. Trump.
Bad people can be right. Good people can be wrong. Putin is right and btw, lots of Republicans have praised PUTIN's behavior.

I will go further: Mr. Trump is precisely the kind of man our system of government was designed to avoid, the type of leader our founders feared — a demagogic figure who does not view himself as part of our constitutional system but rather as an alternative to it.
Actually, our founding fathers hated the notion of political parties and would probably be appalled at the two-party system. That Trump is boldy opposed to the establishment suggests that he may actually be more in line with the principles of the founding fathers. I can't destroy the rest of this article because I'll be late for work but this article is ****ing garbage and was written by a hack.

True, which I suspect is why the author said governing or military experience. If you served, you at least have an idea of what the CinC has to deal with, and perhaps know a bit more about national security and national defense issues than most other people.

And John McCain was touted for his foreign policy experience despite saying that terrorists were crossing the IRAQ/PAKISTAN border (a thing that doesn't exist) and saying that the Sunni and Shia would not fight each other (these people have been fighting each other for over 1000 years). Government has always been full of idiots; not denying that at all. The issue at hand is whether it makes any sense for someone who never served at ANY level of government to suddenly jump into the White House.

Bad people can be right. Good people can be wrong. Putin is right and btw, lots of Republicans have praised PUTIN's behavior.
I honestly have to agree that it was unnecessary (and a bit silly) for the author to have opened that can of worms. Putin is indeed very bright, but you can't claim he's always honest.

Actually, our founding fathers hated the notion of political parties and would probably be appalled at the two-party system. That Trump is boldy opposed to the establishment suggests that he may actually be more in line with the principles of the founding fathers.
He can't be THAT opposed to the establishment when he's looking for the nomination from a major party!

As you already said, bad people can be right and good people can be wrong.
