I mean just check out the headline on Breitbart:

Paul Ryan Betrays America: $1.1 Trillion, 2,000-Plus Page Omnibus Bill Funds 'Fundamental Transformation of America' - Breitbart

Republicans working with Democrats are considered bad now...Sure there are things I don't like in the bill, but there are some things Dems don't like in the bill either. The great hope Ryan has apparently faded with his first act as speaker. Who saw that coming?

It was a stupendous accomplishment for Speaker Paul Ryan to get any agreement at all.

The far right and the far left are always going to rattle their cages about anything. Best to just ignore them.

I just love how conservatives think it's ALL the Republicans fault. Every time one of these things passes. My belief is that they just read these headlines and get angry without doing any further research.

Have you done any research into why there is anger over this spending bill, or are you just reading headlines?

Well Nancy Pelosi the queen of the far left is complaining about the oil export law change.

Now prices can climb somewhat more in the US. That will boost oil company profits.

This is a shame but it is better than shutting down the Federal Government completely.

Everybody had to hold their nose about something in the compromise.

I am impressed there was agreement at all, I suspected a repeat of the 2012-2013 fiasco where partial shutdowns and threats of defaulting dominated the news.

But for here, and probably made worse by the campaign season so far, we have pure foolishness across the political spectrum. We are still talking about an agreement that spends more, taxes less, and adds to deficits to the tune of a half Trillion (thus adds to Total Debt almost directly, none of the agreement is deferred.)

This agreement is nothing more than another suspension of fiscal responsibility for items both Republicans and Democrats wants. For instance, in this agreement Republicans get the end of a 40 year ban on exports of crude oil (without having to swap that oil with imports.) For the Democrats, they got various spending increases on everything from NASA to the National Institute of Health to various social services. Republicans wanted tax cuts and benefits for big oil, Democrats wanted spending... the "agreement" allows them to all get their wants.

Basically, this agreement kicks the can all the way down to the next 115th Congress to deal with impact... namely handing them a budget for their first fiscal year that is back to being almost $1 Trillion in the red.

There should be general hate for this agreement, but for the pure reason of fiscal responsibility. Taxes as a percentage of GDP is going to fall here, perhaps by a full point. Spending as a percentage of GDP at least stays constant if not going up. We are repeating our mistakes of ignoring the relationship of spending to taxation, and the relationship of Total Debt to GDP. Which is ironic as most of the time the far reaches on both sides of the economic debate ignore debt as effectively meaningless. Probably more for political reasons than any pure economic theory reasoning known to man.

rattling cages, inspiring hate, undermining bi partisanship, attacking compromise. the far right has a monopoly on these issues. Even if we pretend there is a far left, what have they done?

The tea party rabble will continue to eat their own, no one will ever pass their ideological litmus tests.

You knew this was going to happen. Ryan is now an important part of a government which is obligated to do many different things to run the nation and to serve the American people. All the far right wants to do is the opposite. Its a whole lot easier to tear down and criticize than it is to actually build and run something.

The tea party rabble will continue to eat their own, no one will ever pass their ideological litmus tests.

Because they have no program for governing and are not about running a country - simply criticizing those who do.

There was nothing wrong with Boehner. He tried to get things done with a far right that was out of control and now Ryan has a choice of accomplishing something or cowing to the far right and not ever getting anything accomplished. Same choice as Boehner had. Soon the far right will be after Ryan's head, just like Boehner and McConnell. The stupid far right just can't see that standing their ground shutting down the government and defaulting on our debt will actually benefit the Democrats. For some reason they think the Democrats will blink but if they don't the Democrats will get blamed when in reality shutting down the government has already happened and it was the Republicans who got blamed and not the Democrats.

You need a primer on definitions:

Far Left --

- anti 2A
- pro regulation
- pro environmental
- pro taxation
- anti oil
- pro solar
- pro Mexican
- bleeding heart

There is definitely a far left.

I don't know why Boehner failed -- and failed miserably.

I think he tried too much to please everybody in his own camp.

I think he tried to be a cheerleader instead of a leader.

His greatest failure was the expanse of time he wasted on repealing ACA over and over again -- akin to someone with a masturbation obsession.

Trump has been doing a pretty good job of making the T-party happy so far though.

I wonder if that will come back to haunt him in the general election ??

Greetings, OrphanSlug, :2wave:

Very good explanation of why we're in the mess we're in! DC doesn't live in the same reality the rest of us do, but why they insist upon continually proving it escapes me!

This is a shame but it is better than shutting down the Federal Government completely.

The amount of shame would depend on how long it stays shut down.

You have confused exporting American oil with other issues.

I am guessing that you did not score high on the SAT reading comprehension section.

Go back and check your scores and the percentiles you fall into.

It's not a mess Polgara it's just another day at the National Capitol.

Business as usual.

Those are major concessions from both sides.

The GOP runs on Big Oil.

The DEMs just gave them a big one.

Anyone slightly less pessimistic and fanatical would call this a major victory by the GOP.

More profits for the oil companies.

More donations to the GOP.

I want USA to live within means and stop overspending. It is ridiculous. USA has no right to Reserve Status. Your taxpayers are not paying for the US governments overspending - the world is buy accepting USD.

Because they have no program for governing and are not about running a country - simply criticizing those who do.

Basic unfocused polarized anger by the rabble.

It never changes.

If you had done the research, I'm curious why you would claim people are just reading headlines and reacting.

I know why conservatives say they are angry, but they don't seem to have looked at anything they got! Pre-2012, this bill would have been good.

There is no far left or even moderate left in the USA.
