Abby Martin interviews Chris Hedges on American myths, war and revolt. Hedges explains the 'folly of Empire,' the dangers posed by right-wing extremism and the urgent need for a new system.

Chris Hedges is a former New York Times journalist and winner of the Pulitzer Prize. He is the author of several books including his most recent, "Wages of Rebellion: the Moral Imperative of Revolt." He publishes a weekly column on Truthdig.com and is the host of Days of Revolt, airing every Monday night on teleSUR english.

He is interesting to listen to. One minor comment: the Sedition Act of 1918 was not the result of "those radical few," it occurred because upwards of 50% of our population was German of either first or second generation. And the German war effort in the US was tremendous to include propaganda, espionage, sabotage, and even infrastructure. It was begun well in advance, and hundreds of millions were dedicated to it, in hope of hedging the German war effort. Which itself had been engineered over an at least thirty year time period. Note too that history often speaks of the Japanese interned during WWII, but it never speaks of the Germans interned during WWI. There's so little compassion afforded the European immigrant in this country, that it's not even acknowledged.

Thank you for posting the OP. It is excellent. I watched it from beginning to end. In fact I saved it and plan to watch it at least once more. I am familiar with Hedges and have read at least one book and several articles by him. Abby Martin, I caught a time or to on RT.

The video provides much to consider. Having seen the video only once my overall reaction is that I agree with Hedges for the most part. I am still chewing on his "barbarism or socialism". That I'm going to have to think about. Perhaps he is correct, I don't know what I think just yet.

Hedges did open my eyes a bit concerning Bernie Sanders. I'm going to look into that.

Every once in a blue moon someone on DP posts an OP that challenges my beliefs and/or gives me an opportunity to think and learn. Unfortunately the opportunity doesn't occur as often as I would like.

Before this thread devolves into partisan childishness, thanks again for the OP.
