Most Underrated American President

Well I guess Carter didn't care about the innocent Timorese civilians killed by Suharto as he stepped up aid to Indonesia while knowledge of these atrocities was known. And what about Carter's relations with Somoza? Again, just ignoring atrocities to suit political ends. His policy certainly wasn't based on "human rights". Instead of confronting tyranny he ignored it and pretended he opposed it.

Carter was a pacifistic president just like BHO.

BHO's campaign platform included getting the USA out of A-stan and Iraq and keeping us out.

Carter had a similar view.

Unfortunately Carter was afraid to attack Iran when he should of in response the embassy breach and the hostage crisis.

Human rights IS our issue, well, in my opinion, as the strongest country on earth, we have a moral duty, well, In my eyes, to help out these people.

So you are a moralistic philosopher.

Good thing that your ideas are not written into our US law anywhere.

His foreign policy was laughable? You're joking, right?

Even accepting the argument that a stance on Human Rights is an accomplishment (it isn't) how many of those countries are better off today because of Jimmy Carter? I mean, the only one to change considerably during Carter's presidency was Iran and I don't think any sane person would argue that the birth of the Iranian Theocracy was a human rights success. And with the exception of South Africa, I don't see a single country on that list that is better off than it was before. Lauding Zimbabwe as a Human Rights accomplishment might just tear a hole in the fabric of space time.

Your opinions are rather unfounded and also dangerous to the American taxpayer and the American soldier and sailor.

God forbid we feed kids in Africa and help countries set up energy programs..

That's just a tiny straw man for all the waste and death that you propose for the American taxpayers, soldiers, and sailors.

Nice try though.
What waste and death? I don't support imperialist overthrows of other governments, I refer to actual aid, food, energy, medicine, protection..

Also, it would be of some use to have the author's first post on the "Come in and introduce yourself" DP post?

Or, he could have simply traded arms for hostages like his successor did.

Oh please don't play stupid like a child with me.

The formal name of this fallacy is verbosity.

Generally it's better to let people come to their own determinations on what they want and what they don't.

Frankly Africa has plenty of resources and has no valid excuse to be poor.

It worked for Reagan.

It was definitely preferable to a war with Iran.

Reminds me of the Barbary Pirates of North Africa in the 1700's and 1800's.

Eventually we had to go in WITH WAR and clean out these rats nests anyway.

Iran will prove to be the same way.

grossly mishandling the Iran hostage crisis - there's really no shortage of fails there.
.

Do you think Reagan's way of "handling" the Iran Hostage Crisis was adequate?

And you know this will happen, how again?
