Trump: Charge Mexico $100,000 for Every Illegal Alien Crossing The Border.....

I agree your idea is workable and that it would be resisted by the employers it would affect but, as I said, it's not the whole story. And, while you don't want anyone being distracted, liberals and their open border desires ARE part of the story as well.

Do you deny that those liberals I speak of would oppose any solution that Trump might advocate? Like it or not, political ideology DOES have a lot to do with the problem.

I think most anyone would oppose the idea of "fining" Mexico for illegals, of making them build a fence on their border to keep their citizens in, and of claiming that Mexico is "sending us their rapists and drug dealers", as Trump has claimed.

What other nations have built fences to keep their citizens in? How about North Korea? The old Soviet Union? Is that who we want Mexico to emulate?

Illegal immigration is a US problem. Mexico has no law against citizens leaving their nation.

"most anyone"??

Perhaps you haven't been reading the news.

In any case, Mexico shares a border with us. The bulk of illegal immigrants coming into our country use that border. Also, some number of those illegal immigrants aren't even Mexican citizens, so I'd say Mexico has a related illegal immigration problem. Those illegal immigrants are in their country...probably illegal there, too.

I don't see your comparison with NK or USSR to be valid...unless you are saying that their neighbors supported their efforts to keep their own citizens in. There are also big differences in how those countries treat their citizens and how Mexico treats theirs, though maybe if Mexico treated their own citizens better maybe they wouldn't be so eager to leave.

No, I don't believe most folks would oppose any of that. The only ones who would are the illegals and their sympathizers.

How about we simply enforce the law against hiring illegals? Deny them work. Deny them any government services at all. Then, if they've been in the US, working here and contributing here, let them go to an American consulate in their home country, provide proof, undergo a background check, and get a green card to come back.

Now, that would be a workable idea, except for the employers of illegals who would rather deal with a workforce that lives in the shadows and is afraid of deportation. It's cheaper, you know, to hire illegals, even if you have to grease a few palms in Washington.

And, the talk of "liberals and open borders" is a distraction from the real problem, which doesn't have to do with political ideology but with simple economics.

That first would be great, but it's not the whole picture and not enough. Their support systems built here have to be dismantled and ALL government services must be withheld.

That's what I said, isn't it?

Most anyone but the lunatic fringe, yes.

As for the comparison, that's my point: Mexico doesn't compare to NK or the old Soviet Union, and so has no interest in building fences to keep its citizens from leaving.

"lunatic fringe"?? Doesn't look that way in Missouri.

What really stands out in the numbers is how broad Trump's support is- he leads with moderates (25%), 'somewhat conservative' voters (23%), and 'very conservative' voters (20%) alike. He is a lot stronger with men (30%) but he leads with women too at 16%. He's particularly strong with young voters (32%) but also leads with middle aged voters (21%) and seniors (17%). Every group we track he has the lead with on this poll.

Well, that's the point of Trumps ideas...giving Mexico an interest in building that fence.

Never going to happen.
Trump is just saying what he thinks his audience wants to hear. Mexico is not going to build a fence.

Anyway, a fence is not necessary and wouldn't work. The only thing that will end illegal immigration is to enforce the law against hiring them, and to deny them government services. That won't happen, as the employers don't want it to happen. So, the pols will continue to yammer about a fence that will never be built and wouldn't be effective if it were. Trump just doubled down on the talking point of a fence by saying that Mexico should build it.

Ain't gonna happen. No way, no time, never, fugetaboutit.
