‘Amnesty Hecklers’ Moment Will Haunt Jeb Bush on the Trail - The Daily Beast

But if the former governor thought he’d get through his announcement without addressing the issue, he was dead wrong. When the protesters appeared, C-SPAN cameras cut away from Bush to pan across their display, and he paused his speech. Then he went off-script to acknowledge their concerns.

“The next president of the United States will pass meaningful immigration reform, so that that will be solved—not by executive order!” he said.
That line wasn’t in the speech, and it’s mostly a reiteration of what he’s argued in the past about the need for a comprehensive immigration overhaul. But it’s probably still going to get him in trouble.

“So Jeb’s response to amnesty hecklers is to...promise amnesty. #SuperAwesome,” tweeted conservative blogger Drew McCoy.

 This can't sit too well with the base if he's going to be serious about this position....

He wrote a whole book on the topic of immigration. He's in tight with the Latino community. He can't duck the issue. He's going to have to deal with it before the primaries are over.

I don't think most Republicans will be offended by what appears to be his policy goal -- increase high-skilled immigrant labor, reduce low-skilled immigrant labor. He isn't "pro-amnesty." The "Evict Everyone" crowd is loud, but it's also much, much smaller than it thinks it is; around 70% of Americans want some kind of legal path for undocumented immigrants who are already here.

He's also one of the few chances Republicans have to angle for the Hispanic vote in 2016. I suspect he knows he can't take the usual extremist tack, or else he'll lose that constituency.

The real issue isn't his policies, it's his political skills, or lack thereof. He needs to control how his agenda is communicated, and he apparently hasn't figured that out yet. Not a good sign, I'd say.

Chléb Bush is just bland white bread.
