A series of political commenters, led by the editor of the National Review, have a new idea for Speaker John Boehner: refuse to invite President Obama from the State of the Union address. The thinking behind this proposal is that it would aptly demonstrate the level of GOP discontentment with the president, in case he doesn’t already know. Rich Lowry, the editor of the National Review, told The New York Times Tuesday night that if he were John Boehner “I’d say to the president: ‘Send us your State of the Union in writing. You’re not welcome in our chamber.’”

Last week, the conservative website Breitbart suggested suggested Boehner do the same “so that the elected representatives of the people do not have to listen to, or applaud, a man who is violating his oath of office and governing as a tyrant.” Meanwhile, unnamed congressional Republicans are privately considering yanking the State of the Union welcome mat, according to Politico.....snip~

Well now.....what do you think about this idea for a slap in BO's face? Would this humiliate BO and embarrass him before the Nation?

Actually, I think it would make conservatives look REAL bad... just confrontational, divisive partisans who have no desire to assist the country, but who's only purpose is to "stick it to the other guy". It would be a major mistake.

Perhaps a better plan would be to say "you lied" and then exit the chamber in unison. ;)

Obama could then deliver his remaining BS to his faithful minority of clapping seals.

its required by the constitution so doing so would be foolish

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid

What purpose does it serve than to be "obstructive"?

It also looks mean and vengeful. In a house dedicated to open debate of the issues, the Republicans are beyond stupid to try to take away 250 years years of protocol.

FFS, I would vote for socialists if they tried to pull that crap and deny the democratic process. They have no limit of opportunity to respond.

Did I mention it was really stupid?

Even better would to let him get to the first "spin", say nothing and with great dignity and pomp exit the chamber saying nothing.

The headlines the next morning would be the most interesting since Ford pardoned Nixon

Heya Ttwtt. :2wave: I think that would be more of an appropriate reaction. Myself, I would prefer BO to speak and keep on speaking. The more he talks, the more that can be used against him.

Given that the major networks declined to air the immigration announcement, Obama might get more attention if he was snubbed.....snip~

Obama just played politics with an executive order and people want the republicans to play nice? Are they just supposed to act like Obama didn't just act to make them look bad to the American people? Obama is a prick that should be ignored by everyone in government.

Well it would certainly legitimize the theory that Republicans are motivated solely by their opposition to Obama personally than they are in running government in any meaningful way. It would also make lies out of the claims by Republicans after their electoral victories that they were looking forward to working with Obama to move government forward.

If one side does something stupid, the other side doing something stupid in retaliation just makes them look as stupid as the first side. If that's what the Republicans want to present... fine by me.

Heya CC. :2wave: They are going to be confrontational in any event..... just as BO has proven he is with Republicans. But on this one I would have to agree with you. So to with some other Conservatives.

Noah Rothman at the conservative Hot Air tweeted. “Look petty, invite bad press, accomplish... What exactly?”.....snip~

For some reason.....I would think this would have come out from the Cruz Camp.

Obama can make his speech from his office or outside the white house and his message would still get out there to the people he really wants to hear it.

Heya F&L. :2wave: Yeah.....let him lie some more to the people as he validates how feckless he is.

its required by the constitution so doing so would be foolish

Heya Dogtowner. :2wave: Its not required.

While the plan legally checks out—the Constitution simply requires that “from time to time” the president let Congress know what’s going on—the optics would be problematic.....snip~

I guess if that was all they did......and while they did admit to working with the President. It did come after BO stated it first and several times. Yet we have seen how that has played out, huh?

I would love to see it. Then everyone can witness how the repukes would govern, or lack of govern as the case may be. Just like a government shut down, will do wonders for the repuke image.

Good afternoon MMC - Happy Thanksgiving to you

As for the OP suggestion, this seems to me to just be another spiteful stunt that will do absolutely nothing but provide sympathy for the President, a man who is entirely irrelevant and an afterthought at this point in his Presidency.

The suggestion by Lowry and others is nonsense and a childish prank that will do nothing to generate support for Republicans. Even suggesting it is damaging.

Hopefully, there are some adults in the Republican leadership who'll see right through this bad idea and trash it.

Perhaps, but my statement is true. He doesn't need to stand in front of a bunch of people that at this point don't even want to see his face. He can sit at his desk or stand behind that obnoxious presidential badge and make his speech. It makes no difference at all.

He could. Of course there ARE some folks in Congress who do want to hear what he has to say.

English, dude.

Which one of those English words didn't you understand with your inherent limitation? Are you slow-witted? Any brain Injuries that you want to share with your limitation?

Did the dots between the words throw off your alleged mental capabilities?

See, now if you were to use complete sentences in your normal posting style as you do when you're insulting me, I'd have no problems understanding you. So take the same facility with the English language you displayed here and apply it to post #17.

I know you can do this.

Same to you CJ. :2wave:

Like I discovered.....Lowry was echoing Cruz. Boehner and McConnell aren't even considering it. They already have a start to a game plan.
