After the SCOTUS refusal to review the same-sex marriage ban rulings, most GOP leaders shrugged and begrudgingly accepted it. It is the law of the land for now.

But not Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz. They have gone off the reservation.

Huckabee is threatening to leave the GOP if they do not take a hard line stance against the SCOTUS decision and he declared it is just an "opinion" that nobody is required to enforce.

Cruz is going to propose a Constitutional amendment to amend the 14th amendment so that states can prohibit gay couples from marrying.

Is this the future of the GOP?

this will be the future of our country soon, when the GOP presides over both the house and senate
craziness will prevail

Is this the future of the GOP?

No, it is the now. Used to be just a few regional nuts. Republican says something nuts and you could just go "well, he is from Texas, he probably accidentally drank the water" and it made sense since Texas is the home of thinking only hippies used the environment, and you can't trust hippies cuz they don't carry big enough guns. Then a governor up and disappears, and you could go "well, it is South Carolina, what do you expect. He was probably just vising his sistercousinniece and didn't have cell phone reception", and it made sense. Then some one from Louisiana says something crazy, and you can just say "well, they ain't real bright there, they still think Jesus rode around on a dinosaur", and it makes sense. But now it is all of them. Michele Bachmann, "legitimate rape", witches, "the polls don't say what we want, so we will say they are wrong and change them to be what we think is right"...this has become mainstream in the GOP. They love to revere Reagan, not realizing that Reagan is a RINO to this GOP, and he is probably turning over in his grave right now over what these people are doing to his republican party.

Note for those confused or offended by the above: The above was not intended to be serious. Huckabee and Cruz really don't represent the mainstream of the party...

If the GOP does take the Senate, they will finally have to stand for something and will be exposed for the party of NO they truly are.

It was McConnell who refused to even hear his own outgoing House Ways and Means Chair's Tax rewrite bill.

I dare say the only hope Dems will have for GOP sanity will come from new Ways and Means Chair Paul Ryan .

So those with opinions counter to yours are nuts?

Go along to get along? That's the problem. Stand your ground and stand up for your beliefs.

Anyone who willingly appears on Bryan Fischers radio show in my opinion is hateful and nuts, I'm not sure if Cruz has, but Huckabee has on several occasions (as well as people like Santorum).

Just one demonstration of what a tit Huckabee really is.

So those with opinions counter to yours are nuts?

No, those with nutty opinions are nuts. Supporting smaller government, which is supposedly a conservative ideal, is not nuts(though I mostly disagree with the idea, especially in practice). Proposing a constitutional amendment for a transient issue is nuts, and ironically, counter to the supposed conservative ideals. Suggesting that no one is bound by court decisions, that is nuts.

Nice try though, except for not being even remotely close to right.

Yeah he's a part of the Family Research Council and a big nut case, he's openly advocated that gays should be executed in the past, that Obama may be secretly a Muslim, so on and so forth.

So mainstream republican.

Mike Huckabee, the future of the GOP? Huh? He's a talk show host on Fox News....on the weekends.

Ted Cruz? His constituents love him, which is why they elected him. Don't vote for him when he runs for re-election.

It's their beliefs. Not mine, but it's theirs. They're entitled to it...and Cruz especially has a lot of constituents who feel exactly as he does.

I think libs are nuts, they have different opinions than me.

Whats the difference in my statement and yours regarding cruz and huckaby.

Libs always try to silence opposition

Is this the future of the GOP?

The GOP has no future. One way or another, it will become marginalized due to demographical changes in America, and its need to dog whistle to a sector of the white community that wants to keep its privilege (or its perceived privileged since most of these whites are working class males who are foolishly doing the bidding of the wealthy oligarchs who run the GOP).

The need by extremists like Cruz to attack minorities (in this case a sexual minority) is part of this. It revs up the white fundamentalist base which is a core component of the white identity constituency. Expect the GOP to continue to define itself by it opposition to the rights and interests of those who don't belong to this shrinking white identity constituent. And with time the party will become marginal, regional and irrelevant, much like it is in California.

This may be one of the most racist rants ive seen on this forum. So how long have you hated white people

Is this the future of the GOP?

If this is the future of the GOP then the GOP will have no future. This is just push-back from the social conservatives against a general social trend. A very loud minority. Most Republicans have remained silent because they know gay marriage is inevitable.

Stand your ground and stand up for your beliefs.

You guys whine and complain every time the gay community do exactly that.

Huckabee and Cruz are nuts!
Well, they are pandering to nuts. I'd like to think that they are putting on an act in order to excite/incite the base[est], but in Huckabee's case I wouldn't bet the farm.

[...] Is this the future of the GOP?
After witnessing what's been going on with them since the Tea Party 'revolution', yes.

And you guys whine and complain at us when we do.

Proudly so. Why? Because we stand our ground and stand up for our beliefs.

Actually you dont, the SSM movement is nothing more than lawsuit happy malcontents looking to be offended and force their beliefs on others.

No one is forcing YOU to accept/recognize gay marriage, crue. They are only demanding equal rights under the law.

Huckabee and Cruz are lovers, they have been dating for years.
