Despite Shocking Video, Cops Let Off Hook For Walmart Shooting

"Officers' actions were justified in the fatal shooting of a man holding an air rifle inside an Ohio Wal-Mart store, a grand jury determined Wednesday — using surveillance video the slain man's family said shows the shooting was completely unjustified.

The Greene County grand jury opted not to issue any indictments in the Aug. 5 death of 22-year-old John Crawford III inside a Wal-Mart in Beavercreek, Special Prosecutor Mark Piepmeier said.

A 911 caller reported Crawford was waving what appeared to be a rifle in the store. Police said he was killed after failing to obey commands to put down what turned out to be an air rifle taken from a shelf.”* Reporting from Dublin, Ireland The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

You're the one that said it. But none the less he dropped the gun, and was still shot.

Yeah, I have a hard time figuring out why this is even up for debate. When he was shot, not only did he give no semblance of being armed, having dropped the air-rifle, but he was also on the ground in a non-threatening, defensive position. He was shot twice, fatally, despite the fact that he was never threatening, or a threat, to anyone. And the people who killed him suffer no consequences. There's something very wrong with that.

I would really like to hear from members of the Grand Jury why they chose not to indict. There may be a good reason, but I'm totally in the dark about what that might be.

I'm generally very critical of officers using deadly force.... but this didn't look like a bad shoot to me.... his movements did not project an air of being compliant with police.. he was moving pretty aggressively ( which will get you dead, especially when officers know there is a weapon in play)
if i was an officer, i would have shot him too... and i'm not trigger happy by any stretch.

i know you really want to race bait, but there is a big difference between open carry and brandishing... learn the difference.

To echo TheDemSocialist--he had dropped the air rifle. Furthermore, nothing about his movements seems threatening to me. He did what most people would likely do if faced with several armed people coming from various directions with drawn guns would do. When he was shot, he was on his side and back with his hands up, palms forward in a defensive posture.
