Democrat Congressman Calls Tea Party “White Crackers”… Where’s the Outrage?

Probably not.

For Republicans people like him are too valuable, he's a corrupt asshole that makes the democrats look bad... better to keep him around to remind people of that.

It's the same reason Michelle Bachmann leaving congress is a huge loss for the democrats.

IS that why all the republicans in his district keep him around?

When did I say that? I just have no idea why someone would get so irate over "cracker." It is not a word that was used to denigrate and subjugate people for hundreds of years like the N-word. Anyone who's acting like it is needs to get some perspective.

Apparently not...

This pisses me off. I demand to be referred to as wheat crackers. Gluten free wheat crackers.

How long before continued discrimination against, and use of derogatory and inflammatory terms applied to a group before the group reacts?

If some are allowed to use the racist term 'Cracker', shouldn't tit for tat say that the 'N' word is fair game and be allowed?

The "N-word" and "cracker" aren't even remotely similar.

Personally, I like white bread. They both make me laugh though.

You just offended women and it's an outrage.

Are they not both racial epithets?

If there an 'official' listing of which racial epithets are worse than others? Didn't know such a thing was documented and formalized.

Or should we just accept that African-Americans are privileged to use any anit-white racial epithets, and the whites are not. We should this just be accepted as fair and just now?

I'm a fifty year old fat white man and you can call me whatever you want. I'll get over it.

I do too. But I have to insist that others refer to me in the wheat cracker category because political correctness requires it. Besides, those are words I can eat. Furthermore, the "wheat" part must be pronounced "hwheat" in keeping with my AngloSaxon heritage. It's a tribal thing.

Has "cracker" been used to denigrate, dehumanize and subjugate white people for hundreds of years? Didn't think so.

Is there a time-limit?

Has it EVER been used to dehumanize and subjugate? Nope.

I somewhat agree with most of what you have been saying but it just seems odd to keep bringing up a "timeline". Maybe we finally have learned a little from past mistakes and feel that it would be wise to address before 'hundreds of years' :)

That's why I brought up time line.

I'm going to stick with the saltine cracker myself. Goes better with chili! And I'm trying very hard to find myself caring even a smidgeon about what some idiot Congressman - excuse the redundancy - says about anything.

Since life goes on, I'm on my way to teach my final class today in Home Ec., and they don't care what color I am. I have knowledge they need, and they're happy to learn it. Back in the PM. Beat the odds, and have a great day, ya hear?!

Yeah, there really is no equivalent word for white people like we have for other racial groups, at least in the US. For a word to rise to that level it has to have some history behind it. A black person can certainly use bigoted speech against whites. If a black person said "All whites are scum and should be wiped from the face of the earth" that would certainly be racist, even though no actual racist word was used.

There are all sorts of wackos in the House from both sides who will not be voted our regardless of what they do.

(*Sigh*) So I guess the White burden in this case is to tolerate any and all racial epithets hurled against them, where there is no such restriction on any other minority group.

This be the 'New Normal' of tolerance so many are proposing. Got it.

Oh, such a burden.

UNREAL: A powerful black Democrat congressman just called the Tea Party a bunch of "white crackers"... and liberals haven't made a peep.
Disgusting. No Republican would get away with using a racist term like that... this racist man should be thrown out of office immediately. Period.

Rangel is a broken-down old man. No one really pays attention to him anymore, so he has to make his presence known by throwing up verbal puke chunks like this.

It's an epithet with no teeth, past or present.

Oh, such a burden.

If racial epithets are allowed to be hurled at white people, then racial epithets should be allowed to be hurled at others, or not?

It's an epithet with no teeth, past or present.

No racial epithets have any teeth. The only teeth that they have are the ones that you give it.

"Sticks and stones . . . . . ."

By allowing this difference to continue, you are saying that some have to suck it up, while others can claim all kinds of injury. Rather inconsistent, is it not?
