I Am Proud of Our President

There is a difference between a museum piece and a working desk. Pick one. If it is a priceless hierloom, put the thing in the Smithsonian already.

The president gets to use museum quality furniture. There should be a certain amount of decorum in using national treasures. The truth is that any time I see any president with his feet on the Resolute I think of Reagan who would not go into the Oval Office without a coat and tie and certainly had enough sense to keep his feet off the furniture.

And exactly how is that calculated and at exactly what point does it become inappropriate to put one's feet up on a piece of furniture?

Aparantly there are times that you and I post crap just to be obstinate. Eventually it gets boring.

You mean like the ones where he can't understand the historical significance of the Resolute desk? He's a nit picker.

I do not know what putting or not putting one’s feet on a desk has to do with the title of this thread. I may have missed something here. But am I proud of President Obama, no more or no less than most other presidents I have personally experienced which goes back to Eisenhower. I do not think I have taken pride in any of them, at least how I take the definition of pride/proud. I do think some have done a better job at being president than others, but pride/proudness has nothing to do with that. In my opinion there has been better presidents than this one and there has been worse.

He met with the Pope. They sat across the desk from each other. He was able to do this without putting his feet on the desk. Now if we could encourage him to treat the Resolute Desk with equal respect.

I hate to have to say it but this is a prime example of why Obama got reelected when he had no business even being in the race. Obama's opponents aren't satisfied that he's an incompetent boob with horrible policies and no guiding principles - they have to put forward personal attacks and pettiness that just makes many who might agree with them revert to sticking with the President even though they know he's an incompetent boob. There are so many things to criticize this President about - there should be no time for this kind of nonsense.

As an example, we have a self-admitted crack smoking Mayor here in Toronto and he's likely going to get reelected - at least I hope he does - because his opponents have been fixated on defeating him by attacking his personal life and his body type. Those who support his policies, which are fiscally sound and conservative, become even more supportive of him as his opponents dig deeper into his personal life and make snide and petty comments about him and his appearance.

The Republicans could have won the White House back last year and could have won control of the Senate the last two elections and yet they couldn't keep their eye on the prize and their thoughts on the important things. I hope this doesn't occur again as your country moves into the 2014 midterms.

Agreed. While I am sometimes proud *for* other people, I am only proud *of* the things i have done myself.

I don't give a crap how 0bama looks. He can wear a party hat with streamers, and drop trou in the oval office for all I care.
His policies make him the worst president of all time.

Bull.

He's not even close to being the worst.

If you have some solid proof otherwise, let's see it.

Clearly you don't understand the the historical difference in Presdential desks. The Wilson desk is made from wood which is replaceable. The Resolute is irreplaceable because it is made from timbers salvaged from the HMS Resolute and gifted to us by Great Briton. You should show a little respect for the desk.

I think it is kinda creepy how you venerate a desk as if it has special, supernatural powers.

A desk is a desk, don't fetish it.

What liberal said that the U.S. Constitution is just a piece of paper?

No one.

But, never let an opportunity to spew hyperbole go un spewed!

And I think it's ignorant that some people don't understand what an historical icon the desk is.

it's a working, useful tool
and it's actually OK if Obama touches it

What a stupid thing to say. All presidents who chose to use it should use it properly. None should use it in a manner that causes unusual wear, such as using it as a foot stool.

If you knew as much as you claim about provenance and how that affects the value of an antique, you'd know that wear and tear from historical figures (such as Obama) increases its' value.

Right wing radio claims yet another victim.

if it were so fragile as to be subjected to damage from normal wear and tear, then it would be be securely stashed and replaced with a tool which can be used
but since it has not been so secured out of concern for its safely, we can safely conclude Obama is doing nothing to damage it
wow. this is all the opposition can come up with. pitiful

There's a time and a place for these types of threads too.

Actually I know quite a bit. I owned a millwork company for thirty years and manufactured furniture that I promise you have sat on if you dine in restaurants. No amount of wear and tear will affect the value of the desk because it is a national treasure and it is priceless.

Every piece of furniture has a price

And we all know what those policies are....It is simple, anything he does is wrong. No there is no partisanship there.
