Where is America's missing foreign policy?

031514_ANHQ_Buchanan_640.jpg

In a New York Times op-ed column last week, Arizona Republican Senator John McCain wrote: "...Crimea has exposed the disturbing lack of realism that has characterized our foreign policy under President Obama. ... For five years, Americans have been told that 'the tide of war is receding,' that we can pull back from the world at little cost to our interests and values. This has fed a perception that the United States is weak, and to people like Mr. Putin, weakness is provocative."

President Obama has retreated on everything from Iraq and Afghanistan, to Iran's nuclear program and his "red line," which Syria crossed and paid no price when it used chemical weapons against its own people. He has even retreated on domestic policy issues, most glaringly on the individual mandate in the misnamed Affordable Care Act.

Not only does the "emperor" have no clothes, he appears to the world as having no backbone and no guts. It's not just a question of military power. It is about formulating, articulating and implementing a consistent foreign policy that is credible and produces results in support of U.S. interests.

President Obama, perhaps our most self-absorbed chief executive, has said: "I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president -- with the possible exception of [Lyndon] Johnson, FDR, and Lincoln -- just in terms of what we've gotten done in modern history."

Leaving aside his hubris and a debate over whether retreat from the world and pressuring Israel to give up more land to its enemies are accomplishments, what should be concluded from such a ridiculous statement about America's foreign policy?

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger has observed: "No foreign policy -- no matter how ingenious -- has any chance of success if it is born in the minds of a few and carried in the hearts of none.".....snip~

Johnny Quest McCain put this in the NY Times and outright throw up the Disrespect for Obama. I don't care much for Johnny.....but he is correct on the Foreign Policy. Now Even Kissinger has sounded off. Heeellooooooo Team Obama. Is there anybody in there?

More bad news for Obama and all his loyal supporters. Now the picture is coming complete. Obama is failing in all areas other than people like him.

What say ye?

What did McCain and the others in your post say about George W when Russia went into Georgia?

Re: Senator McCain: Obama the Emperor Appears to the World Having No Backbone, No Gut

I'll be right here to say that Obamas is a *****. That his opposing party is criticizing him doesn't mean much, do you think they would compliment him?

But I haven't seen a good idea for what he should have done instead:

Should we stay in Iraq forever?

Should we stay in Afghanistan where they asked us to leave? If so, why?

Should we have attacked Syria? If so, why?

Should we attack Iran?

We are low on funds. We can only afford so many wars. Personally, I would hope not.

As for delaying O'Care. Isn't that good? Sure, he's doing it for election reasons but aren't we glad that this silly law is being delayed? Are we in a rush to implement it? If he stalls until 2016, we might get a new leadership that will unwind or repair O'Care. So, isn't this a good thing for us?

No matter how bold Russia or China might become, I doubt they'll attack us.

I thought McCain was a rino, hated by most Cons and not worth listening too. But anyway, why do we need to interfere with another countries political BS. We don't need another war. We don't need to get more people killed, We can't afford it. We have our own problems to deal with and don't need to take on problems of another country. The damn Cons and Libs have caused enough problems right here at home. If people are so in need of defending another country let get on a plane, go to that country and offer their services.

Re: Senator McCain: Obama the Emperor Appears to the World Having No Backbone, No Gut

What the **** do you people actually expect him to do? Start a war with Russia? You all keep complaining that he's "weak", but I think you'll just complain no matter what the president does. The American people have no interest in still fighting the Cold War, least of all escalating it.

Re: Senator McCain: Obama the Emperor Appears to the World Having No Backbone, No Gut

No matter what the president does conservatives will whine. They even whined when he ordered Seal Team 6 to go into Pakistan to kill bin Laden. If they'll whine about that, they'll whine about anything.

What about our treaty's? Why would any one trust us in the future if we do not honor our agreements?

Re: Senator McCain: Obama the Emperor Appears to the World Having No Backbone, No Gut

John McCain is a traitor who collaborated with the North Vietnamese resulting in the death or capture of numerous Americans.

Later, as a Senator, he moved heaven and earth to sabotage numerous efforts to rescue POWs or negotiate for their repatriation.

Whether McCain is right or wrong about Obama (my own opinion is that he is GREATLY exaggerating his charges against the President while downplaying his own role in constantly kow-towing to this administration) the simple fact that this piece of **** has a microphone in his face should be an embarrassment to every American, should be especially painful for any "conservative" who considers himself a friend of our military and veterans, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

There is nothing McCain will not say or do to gain and keep power and/or influence.

Re: Senator McCain: Obama the Emperor Appears to the World Having No Backbone, No Gut

That is an absolutely ludicrous statement.

You should be ashamed of yourself sir.

The US is weak, primarily because the People can't get corporate ****-suckers like mccain from sucking $$ out of our wallets to pay for their sponsors' agendas.

He should. mccain is a traitor for many other reasons, too.

Agreement to do what? If it's an agreement to go to war with Russia, then we should absolutely not honor that. That kind of crap is how we got two world wars. So again, what supposedly should we be doing?

Heya SB :2wave: .....no not at all. But what I do find funny is that McCain had this in the NY Times. Yet for somereason the Democrats decided to go after Paul Ryan.

There have been several good ideas brought forth in several threads on some of these matters. With ideas even coming in from those overseas.....or telling us what it looks like from their perspective.

No we shouldn't stay in Iraq or Afghanistan forever. Which I have stated repeatedly. So why do we always go back to the same question. Moreover.....what good does it pointing out.....hey Bush or the republicans did it too. 2 wrongs don't make it Right for one thing. Second.....it has no bearing as to whats on happening now and who has to deal with or don't.

No we shouldn't have attacked Syria.

Yes we are low on funds.....yes in one aspect it is good to delay O'care. But not really.....as then all these Band-Aid fixes. Keep costing the people more money. More time and just allows them to keep using a quick fix to a Program that was a failed concept from its creation. While actually never solving the problem.

If there is Republican President in 2016.....they will squash O' Care and put it where it belongs. In the Garbage. That's when Obama's History plays out for its final moment and then he will become just like Carter. Except he will be in a worst position. Since the only ones that will trust him will be his Deep Core Raw Kool Aid Eaters.

At least people know Carter isn't out there just lying to be lying. Can't say the same for BO.

Heya Carleen.
hat.gif
Not much since they can look at Kosovo and Serbia.....like Putin used in his speech today. That's where we backed Kosovo breaking way from Serbia and the Russians were against it.

Still as you can see his remarks were put in the NY Times.....which I am sure go Ole Johnny Quest here has no problem tweetin' out himself.

Re: Senator McCain: Obama the Emperor Appears to the World Having No Backbone, No Gut

That is an absolutely ludicrous statement.

That's a bone you'll have to pick with McCain's fellow Vietnam POWs (not all of them, of course, some speak very highly of him).

They're the ones making the claim, I'm just repeating it.

Given his efforts as a Senator to frustrate rescue and repatriation efforts at every turn I certainly wouldn't put it past him.

Either way, he's one of two things:

1. A full blown traitor - which, given the fact that he was subjected to prolonged periods of torture during his years-long captivity is at least forgivable, probably even understandable.

2. "Merely" guilty of throwing fellow POWs under the bus for political gain while viciously attacking and insulting the families and loved ones of those POWs. There is no excuse for this and no reason to forgive the man.

I never use the "Bush did it too" excuse for anything. Had Obama unwound some of Bush's bad deeds, I might have said that. But Obama has embraced too many Bush policies for anyone to say that Bush must be bad and Obama good. They were both less than we needed or deserved.

Yeah and I have always said.....there isn't any difference in Neo-Cons and Neo-Libs. Except for who's in Charge. I think Bush had a couple of Advantages. One he went through the military. So he knows what structure looks like. Discipline etc etc.

Obama has no clue about such and all that comes with that type of Microcosm of society. Living institutionalized.....living with discipline and consequences.

Please allow me to expound.
Cons want birth control and abortions stopped, in that way, America could outpace every country's population, in that fashion, the could go start wars with other super powers, like China, Russia, etc.., we would need that size of a population to keep people in boots to put on the ground, and America could say to foreign countries, hey, if you kill 100,000 of us, we'll just send another 100,000 to replace those lost.

Cons have always wanted a well oiled military machine, we always hear them screaming a crying about cutting money to the military machine. We should all step aside, and allow another 8 year conservative term of say, Jeb Bush, or another one like Romoney to lead, just to see what they would do when world conflicts arise, let's see if they're all too willing to step up to the plate.

Meh, a four year man? If anything, he learned how to circumvent and use the system, at best.

I believe that most Americans would prefer that we stop interfering in other countries' affairs! Crimea wanted to once again be under the Russian umbrella since they are mainly Russians by birth; they were not forced at gunpoint to do so, since 97 percent of them voted to rejoin Russia, so what do we do? We state the election was rigged, declare the result invalid, and send planes and ships to the area! The Crimeans apparently don't want "democracy," but that's their business, not ours, and they will live with their choice, since the Crimean Parliament declared yesterday that Crimea is now an independent state, free to become part of Russia again.

You state that "the American people have no interest in still fighting the Cold War, least of all escalating it." I totally agree with you! So what are Obama and Kerry doing? The exact opposite! meh! Maybe they should listen to the American people for a change! The tensions have escalated since we involved ourselves, sanctions are being implemented on both sides, insults are flying back and forth, and for what? A little country no larger than some of our states!

Greetings, Paschendale. :2wave:

Nah, McCain isn't a traitor and that's not true with NAM.....but I do think he is starting to go a lil bit senile. Its time for McCain to hit Pasture.....watch those tumbleweeds and drink that Beer his OL has a good chunk of her Money invested in.

Well, if we're going to base a president's military background on his or her ability to be a United States president, we have this
Ronald Wilson Reagan enrolled in a series of home-study Army Extension Courses on 18 March 1935. After completing 14 of the courses, he enlisted in the Army Enlisted Reserve on 29 April 1937, as a Private assigned to Troop B, 322nd Cavalry at Des Moines, Iowa. He was appointed Second Lieutenant in the Officers Reserve Corps of the Cavalry on 25 May 1937. On June 18 of that year Reagan, who had just moved to Los Angeles to begin his film career, accepted his Officer’s Commission and was assigned to the 323rd Cavalry.

Lieutenant Reagan was ordered to active duty on 19 April 1942. Due to eyesight difficulties, he was classified for limited service only, which excluded him from serving overseas. His first assignment was at the San Francisco Port of Embarkation at Fort Mason, California, as liaison officer of the Port and Transportation Office. Upon the request of the Army Air Forces (AAF), he applied for a transfer from the Cavalry to the AAF on 15 May 1942; the transfer was approved on 9 June 1942. He was assigned to AAF Public Relations and subsequently to the 1st Motion Picture Unit in Culver City, California. Reagan was promoted to First Lieutenant on 14 January 1943 and was sent to the Provisional Task Force Show Unit of This Is The Army at Burbank, California. Following this duty, he returned to the 1st Motion Picture Unit, and on 22 July 1943 was promoted to Captain.

In January 1944, Captain Reagan was ordered to temporary duty in New York City to participate in the opening of the sixth War Loan Drive. He was assigned to the 18th AAF Base Unit, Culver City, California on 14 November 1944, where he remained until the end of the war. He was recommended for promotion to Major on 2 February 1945, but this recommendation was disapproved on July 17 of that year. On 8 September 1945, he was ordered to report to Fort MacArthur, California, where he was separated from active duty on 9 December 1945.

While on active duty with the 1st Motion Picture Unit and the 18th Army Air Forces Base Unit, Captain Reagan served as Personnel Officer, Post Adjutant, and Executive Officer. By the end of the war, his units had produced some 400 training films for the Army Air Forces.

Reagan’s Reserve Commission automatically terminated on 1 April 1953. However, he became Commander-in-Chief of all U.S. Armed Forces when he became President on 20 January 1981.

But people wanted Mittens for our president, Mr. Legally Draft Dodger himself. go figure.

Yes, it is very important to have the ability to fold your handkerchiefs, underwear and socks and fit these items into a foot locker, after all, they teach these things to people in basic because you never know when you'll be shipped off to a front. It's good to be prepared.:lamo
