.....Looming over his Legacy.

President Barack Obama is running out of reasons to say no to Keystone XL, the proposed oil pipeline that’s long been looming over his environmental legacy.

Five years after the pipeline’s backers first asked the Obama administration for approval, the project remains in limbo, stuck in a complex regulatory process that has enabled Obama to put off what will inevitably be a politically explosive decision. But the release Friday of a long-awaited government report removes a major excuse for delay, ramping up pressure on the president to make a call.

The State Department’s report raised no significant environmental objections to the pipeline, marking a victory for proponents, who argue the project will create jobs and strengthen America’s energy security.

Environmentalists disagree and insist approval would fly in the face of Obama’s vaunted promise to fight climate change, even as the report gives him political cover to approve it. They argue the report, which provides a detailed assessment of tar sands emissions, offers Obama more than enough justification to oppose the pipeline.

A final decision isn’t expected until this summer, at the earliest, meaning the verdict could potentially come in the run-up to November’s midterm elections, in which energy issues are likely to be a factor in some key races. The decision might also coincide with the Obama administration’s release of new emissions rules for existing power plants that are also politically contentious.....snip~

Obama has no excuses now.....his own State Dept says no significant Objections to the pipeline. Despite what activists are saying. The one now who has stood up and is speaking out to get Obama's attention is Barbara Boxer out of California.

As you can see Obama may cave.....due to pressure from the Demos themselves over the Midterm. Do you think he will cave on these issues once he find out that his care package and signature legislation is back up in the medias eye with more problems and failures? What say ye.?

Let's get the thing built.

what is interesting is this is about the 5th or 6th time or more they have sent the same report to him.

I mean really unless he is just pushing a political agenda there is no reason not to approve this, but he isn't a leader.

Obama may have left himself wiggle room to approve Keystone XL

7 months ago, and before that as well, the stance has been that he would give approval to built once the various concerns were addressed, and now if he feels they have been addressed then its not playing politics its just doing exactly what he said he'd do.

Of course politics may have played a role in this decision now, as it typically does in all decisions, but I'm going to need a little more evidence than bias speculation that its the driven factor behind this new information.

He's pushing a political agenda. His followers and money men are insisting it's a bad thing.

He's too stupid to approve it.

Yeah, that part about his election what he said then and now.....and the issue with Canada comes to more Importance, than that Democratic party. Which is why the Oil is already flowing with the Texas and Oklahoma Pipelines in those Republican controlled states. Plus all that you speak of about Politics playing its role. Isn't enough for you to see any other Political strategy. Yet you listen to what the Political pundits of both sides says.....Right? Myself, I wonder why Huff Po is telling its liberal base that this was a major hurdle that was finally cleared.

Keystone XL Pipeline Clears Major Hurdle After State Department Report Raises No Major Objections

The new report comes only days after Obama's State of the Union address, in which he reiterated his support for an "all-of-the-above" energy strategy that embraces a wide range of sources, from oil and natural gas to renewables such as wind and solar power. The remarks were a rebuff to some of his environmental allies who argued that Obama's support of expanded oil and gas production doesn't make sense for a president who wants to reduce pollution linked to global warming.

Obama blocked the Keystone XL pipeline in January 2012, saying he did not have enough time for a fair review before a looming deadline forced on him by congressional Republicans. That delayed the choice for him until after his re-election.

Obama's initial rejection of the pipeline went over badly in Canada, which relies on the U.S. for 97 percent of its energy exports. The pipeline is critical to Canada, which needs infrastructure in place to export its growing oil sands production. The northern Alberta region has the world's third largest oil reserves, with 170 billion barrels of proven reserves.

In a bid to smooth over relations with Canada and other pipeline supporters, Obama quickly suggested development of an Oklahoma-to-Texas line to alleviate an oil bottleneck at a Cushing, Okla., storage hub. Oil began moving on that segment of the pipeline last week.....snip~

Nothing like Political expediency.....especially In an Election Year. ;)

The remarks made regarding energy during Obama's SOTU address were curious at best. His attitude toward oil, natural gas and fracking made him sound like a tough "git er done" kinda guy.

But his actual actions in the WH seem to reflect something very different.....

Why are you so keen on making it easier to export oil to China. That is what the pipeline is all about - making it easier to transport Canadian oil to China. We're just in the way.

Senator Boxer’s Statement on the Latest Development on Keystone XL Pipeline

Today, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW), issued the following statement

Senator Boxer said: "I will not be satisfied with any analysis that does not accurately document what is really happening on the ground when it comes to the extraction, transport, refining, and waste disposal of dirty, filthy tar sands oil. My biggest concerns continue to be the serious health impacts on communities, and the dangerous carbon pollution that comes from tar sands oil." .....snip~

I fail to understand why Boxer feels it's her duty to tell the Canadians how to run their oil extraction process in their country! If they choose to hire people with shovels, squeegees, and over-size coffee cups to extract their oil, why should she care? It was my understanding that our interest is limited to the transportation of said oil to the final destination in Texas, and whether it is environmentally safe. That has been reviewed for years, and any further delays will be for political reasons only!. If the Governors of the States involved have no objections, why should Boxer interfere? Did she tell the Saudi's how to do the job of extracting oil out of their land? If she can find the time, she might instead consider ways to lower the trillion dollar debt burden California is carrying, and let Canada run their country as they see fit! :screwy:

Heya Lady P.

Be interesting to find out if the Saud ever bankrolled her campaigns.....huh?

Maybe some will jump out there and start talking about how she is more concerned with the Sauds interest rather than ours. As the Saud aren't happy that we wont be needing them anymore.

She's just trying to move the goalposts in a grandstanding effort to please elements of her constituency.

She has been around far to long.....time to send her out to pasture. What is she going to say the Dept ran by Hillary was falsifying the records?

She has been around for a long time. I have no doubt she has many willing minions working on stalling this as much as possible. I think the forces at work will overcome her effort in short order. If she's worried about the dirt, she could look to the oil seeping out of the ground off her coast and see what she might be able to do about that. It is, after all, within our sovereign territory and in her state. I can't imagine that no one has mentioned to her that her influence in Canada's affairs is no greater than mine, which is to say, none.

Wait, a politician has a political agenda? Stop the presses, I've never heard of that before!

If that was the main objective, Obama would have seen it's completion through in a heart beat.

Being is that oil is a global commodity, we would profit off it's sale as well.

How would we profit off of it? It's from Canada and it would seem to be the property of the oil company.

So what do you think the real objective of the pipeline is if not to transport oil to the gulf coast?

then why create a pipeline that would end up causing a increase in gas prices and do more damage to our enviroment?
