Phil Robertson: American Hero

Well, that only took decades.

Who knew that the Leftist Playbook would finally get seriously winged by a duck caller?

By now, as even we holiday partiers have learned, the A&E network has sheepishly backpedaled. In direct response to a fierce public outcry the network un-suspended Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the wildly popular Duck Dynasty series. Robertson had been temporarily banned after an interview in GQ in which he colorfully pronounced his religious views on gays and Jim Crow laws, instantly launching demands from the left-wing Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination (GLAAD) and others that he be canned on the spot.

Huffed GLAAD to Fox News:

Phil Robertson should look African-American and gay people in the eyes and hear about the hurtful impact of praising Jim Crow laws and comparing gay people to terrorists,” the statement said. “If dialog with Phil is not part of next steps, then A&E has chosen profits over African-American and gay people -- especially its employees and viewers.

Re: Phil Robertson: American Hero

It was a very effective publicity stunt. Lesson learned from ChikfilA.

Evidently lesson not learned. People don't like having other people shove their views down their throat. after that supposed outcry over chikfila they had some of their
most profitable weeks for a while. lines wrapped around the bloody buildings.

People say they don't like having religion shoved down their throats. well the same goes for GLAAD. they are able to promote their message however they want to, but that
doesn't mean people have to accept it or want it shoved down their throats and told they have to accept it.

It's these types of stunts that will make GLAAD irrelevent. people get tired of these groups constantly calling wolf all the time.

on another note from what i have seen Phil is not happy about the show and pretty much wants it done with.

A&E has been doctoring the show. they put in bleeps when no one was cussing they have censored out his prayers when he says in Jesus name and other things
that are going on.

From what i have seen he has been in several fights with the producers over these types of things. It was said that this was either a way to end the show totally or push a&e to play the show right.

Re: Phil Robertson: American Hero

What is with this obsession with this show? I mean you look through the spy, and half of the posts seems to be about Duck Dynasty! Are there so few pressing issues in this country that THIS is what gets us riled up! What the ****! /rantover

Re: Phil Robertson: American Hero

Keeps the right from thinking. I was just thinking about this, I have not, to this second heard a word of this story from any source like GLAAD or a liberal paper, not a right wing source. I am sure there are some out there, but they seem to be drowned out by the RW outrage. As usual.

Re: Phil Robertson: American Hero

It is laughable to call Phil an "American Hero" over this.

One can applaud him I guess for standing up for his beliefs, but calling him an "American Hero" just shows how backwords this author really is.

Its about more than the show, but highlights a core issue on many people's mind. It is one that most of us reluctantly talk about IRL in fear of being accused of bigotry or hatred. We fear speaking the truth as we see it, because we have been bombarded by the PC crowd for a time now.
Don't get me wrong, it started with good intentions, was meant to protect actual victims of discrimination, but has morphed into something that discriminates against anything a few might find offensive.
My guess is that Phil could care less about PC and ratings. I don't know, don't know his innermost thoughts, but since he is openly Christian and willing to speak the biblical truth, I suspect he does not care much about being judged by his fellow men, but rather:
"His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant;"

Just about freedom and morals. Nothing too important. 8)

It seems having the courage to stand up for ones beliefs is in short supply these days.

We need more Phil Robertsons.

Who is "we?" Are you also a member of duck dynasty? Why are you afraid to speak the truth as you see it? If you say you think gay people are sinners, will GLAAD show up at your doorstep?

The reason that CELEBRITIES are afraid to say anything controversial is because the people who write their paychecks don't want controversy on their hands. They don't want to alienate audiences. If you want to pinpoint the reason that high profile Americans have to walk on egg shells, it isn't because of GLAAD, it's because of greed. Protesters can complain all they want, but there's no reason A&E has to do anything about it.

And what about those with the courage to stand up to bigotry and fight for equal rights?

Or is it only courageous if you agree with it?

What 'rights' do Gays not receive? (and don't say marriage)

Re: Phil Robertson: American Hero

Why not? Marriage is a big deal to some people.

Again, I'm not saying him standing up for his beliefs is a bad thing, however, calling him an "American Hero" is kinda taking it a bit far don't ya think?

I also look at gays fighting for their marriage to be recognized by the states as admirable too.

And I explained why he is a hero. He stood up to the Leftist PC agenda when few would.

So then gays standing up against the rightist agenda make them heroes as well by your logic.

Hey if you want to hero worship Phil, be my guest. I think you are minimizing the REAL heroes like those that gave their lives for this country. But you do what you want.

Why are gays such whiners? And this tagging along with the civil rights movement is tacky. Stand on your own, or dont stand at all.

Sure, heros come in many persuasions. Each to their own.
