Conservatives on this site seem to favor legalizing pot but the GOP isnt.

In NY Gov Como thried to decriminalize pot but the GOP defeated it.A few conservatives seem to be for legalization on this site but overall the GOP still hates pot. Why?Are they still equating pot with the anti war movement or hippies?I thought the GOP was for keeping the government out of our lives.I guess not.

What is the social conservatives problem with legalization of pot.Do they fear the slippery slope and think they would have to legalize other illegal drugs based on the same argument? Are they just moralistic and self righteous? What ever the reason I am sick and tired of being judged by a bunch of drunks and cigarette smokers because my chioce of intoxicant is not theirs. We all can agree the war on drugs is lost and now that tightwad conservativism is in then it should make good sense to legalize drugs and end drug testing forever.

It's not just those on the right that stand against legalization. Far from that actually. Just look at California... hardly a state known for conservatives...

Money. Criminalized drug use is a means of making money for quite a few groups, the government included.

That is also the reason why no Democrat-led legislative body at the federal level has put forth a serious initiative to decriminalize.

this is what I love about hyperpartisans .
ya take an issue where both sides actually agree ( in this case, keeping Marijuana illegal)... and the partisan goes off the rails ranting about one of the parties.

sorry charlie, you aren't going to find either of the 2 main parties supporting the legalization of marijuana...a few individuals here and there from both parties, but no party wide consensus.
the Libertarian party has a platform of legalizing marijuana ( and ending the drug war).. Dems and Reps don't.

Both the Repugnantcans and Democraps stand for ever larger government. The areas of enlargement differ slightly but in principle, they want to run your life and of course, they want to make as much money for themselves as possible.

Dude- you're confusing the GOP with libertiarians. There is not a large political party who wants to maintain little control, on either side of the aisle. You can vote to have your wallet grabbed for, or vote to have your privacy and sex life under scrutiny. Take your pick. We aren't going to have a small government, who is content with letting you live your life however you want, any time in the near future.

Every time legalization has come up for a vote in the state of Washington it was the evangelicals and the social conservatives who screamed the loudest.Yes there are a few PC democrat's who stand in opposition but by far it is the far right that makes the most noise.

When Barney Frank and Ron Paul pushed a bill to legalize marijuana it was the GOP who wouldnt let it come to a vote in the house.Yes there are moderate and PC dem's who are against it but almost all left wingers support legaization along with the libertarians.PC is just as bad as social conservatives when it comes to our right to privacy.
