1984 could very easily become a reality. If you fail to see that as a possibility, that is quite unfortunate.

Here's the tragedy of libertarians:

they advocate more or less unlimited state power, which basically translates to particularly brutal "right of the majority" because it denies minorities persecuted by local governments any higher recourse.

Then they complain about how they're being persecuted by an unjust majority.

IRONYSPLOSION!!!
And here's the tragedy of NCFY, he makes presumptuous blanket statements and pawns them off as constructive criticisms.

I believe whole-heartedly that the Fourteenth Amendment needed to be enacted. The states had to be held to the same standard of recognizing and protecting rights as the federal government. I do not believe for one second that a local authority can restrict a right on the basis of "state's rights". I think the concept of state's rights is a fallacy. Collectives do not have rights nor do government entities, only individuals do and the government, whether state or federal, exists to uphold those rights.

Keep painting with that broad brush and you'll keep missing spots like you always do.

Good point. Very few individuals on all isles would disagree with the bold above.

I believe the argument lines have blurred a little bit, as i even found myself responding to members on the grounds of their reply to others, more so than their statements towards me.

I do kinda feel like a an ubber dork for priming the pump towards 20 pages+ of Ron Paul platform debating.

The point is that you and I and Goldenboy and NCFY do not agree on what those rights are.

Does the 14th prohibit segregation? Abortion restrictions? Laws banning homosexuality? Laws banning gay marriage?

What you consider a "fundamental right" that the federal government exists to uphold, someone else might not. WHO WINS?

I have never argued otherwise. You are pretending that I am claiming that segregation is a myth.

That's what I mean about thickening that skin a little bit. The lot of you aren't crazy but you got your Cindy Sheehans and your Anne Coulters that are just too easy to pass over.

I know for me, if I have a problem with something you said or presented, I'm not going to take exception to it by gabbing about trekkies turned libertarians from 10 years ago. I'm gonna come directly after you over it.

You and I rarely ever actually disagree when we are in a thread together. Same with Ethereal.

Shut up.

This is what's going on:

I'm concerned about something that did happen for a long time and wouldn't require major restructuring of our society.

You're concerned about something that could happen and would require vast changes in our society.

And that's why libertarianism is just masturbation. You enjoy fretting about Big Brother because it's emotionally satisfying, not because it's relevant.

Gay people in this country, right now, are being denied their human rights by state governments. That's not a Red Dawn fantasy, it's not a book, it's a Ron Paul portent of doom, it's happening right now and it's being vindicated with your ideology.

But you care more about your self-gratifying fantasies of rebellion then actual human rights.
