I can see how these quotes can be taken to be very insulting to urban Americans, and to people who aren't conservatives.
She'll never make it past the primaries.

I still think it will have no affect.

What she said isn't going to spur any leftists who were going to not vote in 2012 to suddenly get out to vote.

I don't think its going to turn any people on the right off of her.

I don't think its nearly offensive enough to where its going to cause her any TRUE moderate/indepenent votes or support. While it was perhaps insulting, I do think Obama's would've been looked at as more insulting, and it did little for moderates I think. Obama's was a direct insult to a specific group of people. Palin's is an indirect (calling one group something good, thus making it defacto assumed the opposite group isn't good).

All in all I think its something some on the left are desperately trying to grasp at to have something to yap about negatively about Palin, or the due to the stated desire by some people on this board for a while now to "give the conservatives a taste of their own medicine" like a bunch of smarmy annoying little 3rd graders.

I think it'll have little to absolutely no impact.
It could be used against her. It's what gets hammered the most and sticks that matters. It could be effectively used against her by the left. I guess I am of the opinion that if the left uses it against her effectively, it will haunt her. Of course, they may not and you would be correct. She may say something worse.

She's far too eccentric for national office. Sure, Obama has dark skin, but he's a fairly white-bread guy.

Please explain Obama's context then.

Maybe I should have the "independent" in my username instead of you.
Perhaps you missed the emoticons.

It's President Elect Obama. Try saying it.

One was a public proclamation. The other was a private fundraiser.

It's ironic what happens when someone is called bitter.

We can agree on that, right?

Absolutely, BUT, it does indicate an attitude does it not? Particularly when it is spoken in a PRIVATE fundraising environment not intended for public consumption.

I know that is your opinion.

I disagree with your opinion.

I don't think it will stick if they Hammer it. I think it'll be a useless waste of their time. I mean if they went really, full on, full bore, on it...MAYBE. But even then, it'd be a waste.

What she's doing is not too far off or out of the way from what most politicians do. You probably heard something on similar lines about "the real america" from Hillary or Bill when they were campaigning in small towns in the south. You're gambling a lot and putting a lot of trust in a platitude that is a passive, not active, insult. (unlike Obama's)

Haunt is a strong word. This isn't nearly on par with "Macaca".

Plus, look at the majority of cities. The vast majority of big cities tend to swing liberal anyways. I highly doubt you're going to sway a lot of conservatives away from Palin based simply on her telling a small town crowd that vistiing them is visiting the real America. I honestly don't believe you're going to have a great amount of independents or moderates deciding things based majorly on this (and for it to "haunt" her I'd expect it to have a major impact). Hell, you're even assuming that everyone that lives in a city LIKES living in a city, which also isn't really true.

Its wishful thinking in my opinion if you believe this will be any real damaging thing.

But then, with things like this, I can see why its best to ignore your opinion on something like this.

Remember folks, insult people outright in private with a bunch of your loyalists and its fine...no problem...you can claim its "out of context" and just keep shaking your head about it.

But say a typical political platitude to a crowd that doesn't directly insult anyone and you're a horrible person.

Morality by IT, do it behind their backs and everythings A-OK!

Yeah, he see's from Chicago what I see from "Real America". There are bitter people clinging to guns and religion. He forgot to mention chewing tobacco and Old Milwaukee. They cling to that too.

I can see how people got upset by Obama's comments. It was poorly worded. But it is true. People become bitter when things are tough. Not all do, but enough do. I would like to see a survey of who attends church more by economic groups. Jesus gives hope.

How about "clinging to guns and religion"?

It wasn't just poorly worded; it was patently ignorant and full of generalizations. Those comments sound just as dumb IN context as they are OUT of context:
