Obama represented Calvin Roberson in a 1994 lawsuit against Citibank, charging the bank systematically denied mortgages to African-American applicants and others from minority neighborhoods.

The bold part amuses me.
Obama sued because the bank systematically denied loans to blacks and OTHERS in poor neighborhoods. In other words ghetto folks with zero dollars couldn't get a loan.
Now is that racist? Should banks be forced to lend money to folks who are a bad risk????? |

Now is that racist? Should banks be forced to lend money to folks who are a bad risk????? | No, banks should not be forced to lend to those who are a bad risk. However, banks should not discriminate based on race either, so the question is whether the bank was simply denying loans based on risk, or discriminating against minorities. In the trial, they were obviously found to be discriminating against minorities. Case closed.
Its absurd to blame this crisis primarily on the poor and minorities anyway. The bulk of these toxic loans were issued to whites with less than stellar credit that bought homes they could not afford. You are acting as though the biggest housing bubbles were not in Arizona, Florida, and Nevada, but rather restricted to the inner city.

Clearly you haven't been reading my posts of late? I despise McCain even more than Obama. |

I believe, from all I've read, the BULK the overwhelming VAST MAJORITY of subprime loans are issued to minorities.
All the subprime loans led to the housing bubble which pushed the price of housing up to ridiculous levels in many areas. When anyone, even those who can't afford it, get loans with ease the demand for houses is inflated. Folks, middle class folks, then borrowed against the equity they had in their home and thus now many are finding themselves upside down on the loans. The housing bubble affected everyone. But it began with the practice of lending to minorities who couldn't afford the absurd types of loans they were issued. |

Apparently it was resubmitted with different music.
