Aired July 28, 2008 - 21:00 ET

KING: We have a history on this program that whenever the vice presidential nominee is announced, he or she appears on this show the next night. It's been going on for quite a while. We hope that Senator McCain follows that tradition since I have a hunch he will not announce tonight who that candidate is.

But how close are we?

MCCAIN: I want to say that that vice presidential candidate will be on your show. I will not risk the wrath of Larry King. I want to assure you.

Palin Media Avoidance Watch, Day Seven
September 05, 2008 12:13 PM
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was named to the Republican ticket one week ago, and she has yet to answer questions from reporters.
Yes, some of the comments from the punditocracy about her have been untoward, even sexist, but given the importance of the job she accepted Wednesday night in her nomination speech, it's entirely reasonable for voters to expect Palin to answer questions from journalists about her positions and her record.
If Sens. Barack Obama, D-Ill., or Joe Biden, D-Del., refused to answer questions from the press, the RNC and the McCain campaign would never stop carping about it -- and rightly so.
In fact, they have done so in the past when Obama has gone several days without talking to the media.
So what are we to expect from Gov. Palin?
Time magazine's Jay Carney tried to get McCain spox Nicolle Wallace to answer this question the other night.

Why does the GOP think it's OK to shield Palin from the public?
If she's ready to be the VP, why isn't she ready to answer questions pertinent to that office?

Re: Palin Media Avoidance Watch

Because they are trying to cram years of knowledge about geography, national security, and non-Alaskin life into her before they release her from captivity. They are also trying to hurry up and finish investigating her so they know what to expect (oops).

Right now the information on her has been so controlled, they want to keep the negative stuff out long enough for the republicans to fall in love with her looks and obama-bashing, then release her. If the information leaking out now while she's in tight control is any indicator, a lot more craziness will be revealed about her. The hope there is once that republican faithful have faith in her, no amount of negative evidence will sway them.

Do you honestly think the bunch on here that has defended President Bush's ignorance for all these years cares whether or not their VP candidate is knowledgeable enough to answer questions unscripted?

The posters? Probably not, most are unethical fools. The lurkers? Maybe. That makes me wonder what lurker vs poster traffic is.

Either way, I still think it's like dating. You don't tell them you have a criminal record or that you are dirt poor on the first date. You let them get to know you before you show them your hairy back in all its bestial glory.

I think about the lurker also.
I think of them as the "independents"
I think we're ALL providing a service by stating our opinions or thoughts.
..........even the venom spewed by some speaks volumes regarding ideals and the type of person different parties attract.

You'd think if she intends to campaign for an office where she'll of necessity have to deal with hostile foreign leaders, dealing with an unfriendly media might be good practice, or at least a good way to demostrate to the American public that she's capable of such.

I doubt they are letting her near anyone who they believe will go after her on any subject outside moose huntin', the NRA, her pipeline project, or pee wee hockey.

She's in pre-schoolers pre-school for "big time government" right now. Papa Bear McMaverick is running screen on her.

I just wonder whether this strategy works. Maybe for Republicans who, to me, follow blindly without really thinking about the substantive issues. The independents, hopefully, will see through this BS and see how Palin has nothing substantive to offer.

I think I have added to your "thanked" count by 30 to 50 points this week.
