"Across all broadcast networks Thursday, Sen. McCain’s speech ended the night with a 4.8 rating/7 share, compared to Sen. Obama’s 4.3/7 average, according to overnight numbers from metered households in 55 U.S. markets measured by Nielsen. These ratings are preliminary, however, and are subject to change."
We will see if this holds true when cable ratings and others are counted. McCain TV Ratings Beat Obama in Preliminary Numbers - TVWeek - News |

I can't even get Democrats on here to take a small wager on their candidate winning.

The sky is fawlling! | 2 points on InTrade is not huge, considering the spread. There is no "free fall" in place. And I told you I was in on the bet with no reservations.

Rasmussen had Obama +5 yesterday, today he is +2.
"Virtually all of the interviews for today’s update were completed before McCain’s speech last night. Roughly two-thirds of the interviews were completed before Palin’s speech on Wednesday night" Rasmussen Reports™: The most comprehensive public opinion coverage ever provided for a presidential election.
Obama completely loses an 8 point lead according to CBS. (Poll through 9-3-08, not including all of Palin's, or any of, McCain's speech.)
"The presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain is now even at 42 percent, according to a new CBS News poll conducted Monday-Wednesday of this week. Twelve percent are undecided according to the poll, and one percent said they wouldn't vote.
This is in contrast to a poll conducted last weekend, where the Obama-Biden ticket led McCain-Palin by eight points, 48 percent to 40 percent. " CBS Poll: McCain, Obama Tied, McCain Closes Eight-Point Gap From Poll Taken Last Weekend - CBS News
This is expected due to the convention, the trick now is to keep that momentum going. The debates now become more important then ever and I predict record viewers for both President and VP. |

PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup Poll Daily tracking from Tuesday through Thursday finds Barack Obama with a four-percentage-point lead over John McCain in the presidential preferences of registered voters, 48% to 44%.
While the difference between today's result and Thursday's 49% to 42% lead for Obama is not statistically significant, some of the broader shifts seen over the past 10 days, spanning both party's national conventions, have been meaningful.
Support for Obama since just before the Democratic National Convention kicked off on Aug. 25 has ranged from 44% to 50%, while McCain's support has ranged from 41% to 46%. Whereas the race was initially tied at 45%, Obama pulled into an eight-point lead at several points over the course of his convention. It now appears the Republican National Convention may be helping McCain to recoup some of his losses, though with Obama's current four-point lead, the entire convention period to this point has still been a net plus for Obama. (To view the complete trend since March 7, 2008, click here.)
While both conventions are now over, measurement of public reaction to them is not. Results, based on interviewing conducted Sept. 2-4, include just one day of interviewing conducted after Wednesday night's widely viewed acceptance speech by McCain's vice presidential running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Most interviewing Thursday night was conducted before McCain's acceptance speech, so Gallup Poll Daily tracking results will start to reflect its impact in Saturday's report. The full impact of the GOP convention on voter preferences will not be known until Monday's report, the first in which all interviews will have been conducted following the convention's conclusion.
| Looks like we will have to wait till Monday to get a good idea, but up till now it's still nothing but net gain for Obama.

Palin couldn't manage to pull them ahead, maybe McCain's speech can produce something other than a couple of ties or a single lead.
Will the RNC give any meaningful bounce at all? |

Lean: Libertarian Gender: Awards: | Re: McCain Speech TV Ratings Beat Obama Final numbers are in, McCain beat Obama in viewers.
"Nearly 39 million people watched Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s acceptance speech on the closing night of the GOP convention Thursday in St. Paul, Minn. That broke the week-old convention record of upwards of 38 million viewers set by Sen. Barack Obama only the week before. Sen. McCain amassed an audience of 38.9 million viewers for his speech on two fewer channels than were carrying Sen. Obama’s speech Aug. 28 to 38.38 million viewers, according to data from Nielsen Media Research." McCain Speech Breaks Obama’s Week-Old Viewership Record - TVWeek - News
Including the record breaking viewers on Thursday, looks like the RNC Convention was a bigger success then the DNC. |
