ST. PAUL — The McCain campaign just rolled out its first ad promoting the candidacy of Gov. Sarah Palin as an “agent of reform,” while attacking Senator Barack Obama in direct comparisons.
Titled “Alaska Maverick,” it intersperses newspaper headlines bolstering her reputation as a fighter against special interests like big oil companies while criticizing Mr. Obama as a liberal and as one of the senators who voted for an energy bill providing subsidies to those corporations. The commercial ends with tough language: “She’s earned a reputation as a reformer. His Reputation? Empty Words.”

What do u think of this ad? Is it effective?

Chicago...one of the most historically corrupt political arenas in the country. What corruption did Mr. Obama go after while he was...what was it again? oh yeah... "community organizing" |

By keeping a Down's Syndrome baby with pre-knowledge it is having DS, it shows a very pro-life cause, not only does Sarah Palin talk the talk, she walks it too. And her daughter choosing to keep her baby only enforces the pro-life/anti-abortion message which ONLY appeals to Christians and the religious right.
There is something called forgiveness and love that Christians hold dear. They won't condemn the 'sinning' or mistake of a 17 yr old girl. She made the right decision to keep the baby and not take a life. To a Christian, that means something. |

Lean: Conservative Gender: Awards: | Re: New Palin ‘Maverick’ Ad Slams Obama Honestly, this is the first ad by McCain I've actually thoguth was well done. I want to go check the references they made to Obama giving big oil money, but will look at this from a first time viewer stand point as I have with Obama's and McCain's.
First, its good to see McCain finally getting off non-issue attacks for the most part. I posted a poll some time ago talking about the four kinds of ad's in campaigns in my opinion...Fluff, Positive, Negative, Attack.
This is a Positive and Negative ad. By that I mean it highlights the positives of Palin, and the Negatives of Obama, and then compares the two. Its not an "attack" ad as the main focus of it isn't going after non-issues or hugely spun and manipulated facts.
The Wall Street Journal was a good paper to pull the quote from as they're well respected and percieved as a rather good, unbiased source. The media, and the democrats even, keep telling us how America wants people to get along. They point out that Palin's shown to work in Bipartisan goals, even going after republicans, while pointing out Obama has the most liberal voting record in the senate. While I do believe he's fallen under that threshold in 08 due to a variety of reasons, he's still not far off....something far different than the claims of 95% voting record of McCain while ignoring his was MUCH lower some if you go back a few years instead.
The oil issue however is an interesting one. This seems to be a slight flip in what the republicans have been pushing so it'll be interesting to see what kind of reaction it brings.
The last line to me doesn't pull it into "attack" range, as most political ads will end in some kind of "slogan" type message. The point there is clear, she's earned her reputation through actual acts while in government. His reputation as a reformer has mostly came about due to talking that he wants to be a reformer.
Another thing though that struck me compared to earlier ads. Visuals.
This is the first McCain ad in a while where I think his ad team shouldn't be fired for their visuals. Previously, they've got Mccain at the end looking like some old retirement hold fool, while almost every image of Obama was presidential and prestigious looking and took up the vast majority of the ad.
This time, McCain's ticket had a great deal of screen time, and looked professional and respectable. Obama's picture on the other hand, while not an over the top ridiculous picture (which would backfire), is hardly a flattering one of Obama.
Nice job McCain, your ad team FINALLY has put out a decent ad

Current Mood: | Re: New Palin ‘Maverick’ Ad Slams Obama Back to topic, I do not know how "effective" the ad will be as attack ad's have a way of turning some people (like me) off.
But, as far as it's content goes, it's spot on if you ask me. |
