Current Mood: | RNC: Thompson/Lieberman offer a pretty powerful opening salvo. Gotta say I was impressed with the 1-2 punch of Thompson and Lieberman tonight at the RNC. They make a very strong case for real change.

Current Mood: | Re: RNC: Thompson/Lieberman offer a pretty powerful opening salvo. You need to take that "moderate" out you profile and change to GOP operative. You are delusional if you think this is an effective convention so far. This has got to be the dullest, most poorly put together convention either party has thrown in my lifetime.
Moreover, Country Thompson was dull as usual, and being that Kermit the Frog never seemed to get the Muppet Theater very fired up, I can't see where the GOP thought that Lieberman would appeal to the American public in his keynote.
I mean come on, if you are looking to portray your party as the party of the future and of change, you got to do better than this:

Thompson spoke about true Conservative issues and could be a signal of the Republican Party going back to those principles. That would be great.
I am looking forward to Palin, Romney, and Pawlenty later this week.
Who are you looking forward to? |

Granted, I'm not exactly an unbiased observer...but I thought tonight was just awful. Lieberman's speech was average, Thompson's speech was bad, and the fact that George Bush was speaking at all was very bad.
I don't know why they let him speak. They managed to use the hurricane as an excuse to get rid of Cheney and to keep Bush out of Minneapolis. Surely it wouldn't have been that much more of a stretch to get rid of Bush too.
Also, the overall vibe of the convention felt very different from the Democratic convention. It seemed more like a funeral, like the Republicans were resigned to defeat but wanted to justify themselves anyway.
If they're going to have a bad day, better today than tomorrow or Thursday. They'd better get their act together by tomorrow.

Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Joe Lieberman told a packed house of 20,000 delegates, alternates, guests and reporters that McCain is a man who can bring people together.

It reminds me of this convention center I got herded into this one time, when I got called for jury selection. I spent the lamest day of my life there. After sitting there for about five hours, I began to have an irrepressible urge to cry. I just so much wanted to be elsewhere. I got the feeling they were going to start loading us into boxcars at any moment. Your picture reminds me of that place.

The contrast with Barack Obama's (or even Bill Clinton or Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden or Michelle Obama) speech is enormous. |

My comment was about two specific speeches, not how Hollywood the presentation, or how much appeal it has to the MTV demo. Those speeches will resonate with the ideological middle. Democrats will obviously hate both speeches. |
