McCain camp keeps promoting falsehoods.

YouTube - McCain Rep Lies: Katrina and Rita 'Didn't Spill A Drop'

And not the first time. Even McCain has been saying this, not just his surrogates.

YouTube - McCain Claims Offshore Drilling 'Safe'

Problem is, its not entirely true.

Offshore rigs in an insurance quandary - International Herald Tribune

Hurricane Katrina 2005 - Drilling Rig Hurricane Damage

Okay.. so 47 rigs destroyed and billions of dollars in damage, and the fact that the damage is estimated only be fully repaired in 2010 (yes not repaired yet), is not a substantial damage in McCain's eyes?

Even the governments own reports from the time disagree with McCain

MMS Press Release - 2006

Look at the amount of rigs shut down vs the amount operating.

So when will the public, let alone the media finally correct McCain and his surrogates.

As for spillage..

Katrina oil spills may be among worst on record | Environment | The Guardian

Quote:
he US coastguard, which is responsible for the marine environment, said yesterday more than 6.5 million gallons of crude oil had been spilt in at least seven major incidents.
Oh, so that's not a lot? Granted this is a total estimated oil spillage, including from storage and off shore and a large part of the spillage was from oil storage problems, but considering McCain and his surrogates have been claiming there was no oil spillage due to Katrina or Rita, then well.

44 oil spills found in southeast Louisiana - Hurricanes Archive Section - MSNBC.com

I guess that this is just the liberal media and the liberal Coastguard reporting lies.

NRDC Press Archive: As Katrina Oil Spills Mount, Congress Calls for More Coastal Drilling

Even the Bush administrations own agency overseeing the industry says the spillage was "medium" and over 16000 barrels were released due to the damage. That's over 670.000+ gallons of oil from oil rigs themselves.

Estimated Oil Spills As a Result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita ~ Setting the Record Straight

So McCain thinks that billions of dollars in damage, and 670.000+ gallons of oil is nothing.... I see.

When will McCain tell the truth?

He can't tell the truth when he is too ignorant to LEARN THE TRUTH. He is reminding more every day of Bush. (Which is particularly distressing because I walked away from the Repub party the day GWB beat McCain in the 2000 primaries) He gets a thought in his head and just repeats it without knowing what the hell he is talking about. Is he lying or is he just uninformed? Either answer is unacceptable to me.

This is from the same party who had a Louisiana Governor say there had been no major oil spills during Katrina even though the 44 oil spills could be seen from f'n space and Mississippi was scared there'd be more.

Katrina oil spills may be among worst on record | Environment | The Guardian

Quote:
The oil pollution in the wake of Hurricane Katrina could be among the worst recorded in North America, officials trying to coordinate the clean-up say. The US coastguard, which is responsible for the marine environment, said yesterday more than 6.5 million gallons of crude oil had been spilt in at least seven major incidents. The previous worst spill in US waters was the 11m gallons in Alaskan waters from the Exxon Valdez in 1989.

"This is a major event," said Lieutenant Colonel Glynn Smith of the coastguard in New Orleans. "Things are going well, but three-quarters of the oil from the spills has not yet been recovered."

The lousiana governor was just citing off what the federal commission had said. Its nice to see he actually bothers to see what other powers above him are saying.

http://www.mms.gov/tarprojects/581/4...ort%20Rev1.pdf

Quote:
Offshore environmental impacts as a result of hurricane events in the [Gulf of Mexico Regional Office] have typically been minor due to the downhole safety valves at wells and operating practices conducted by the oil and gas industry with respect to platforms and pipelines in advance of approaching hurricanes... While cleanup was required, the volume of oil spilled and impacts to shore from offshore infrastructure were categorized as minor.
Feel free to take your anger out on the MMS, Jindal was just a mouthpiece for them.
