Obama’s Senate Experience: 143 Days

Obama’s Senate Experience: 143 Days

By NewsMax.com
July 13, 2008

Barack Obama logged exactly 143 days of experience in the U.S. Senate before setting his sights on winning the White House.

Obama was sworn in as a senator on Jan. 4, 2005, and he announced that he was forming a presidential exploratory committee on Jan. 16, 2007. In that interval, the Senate was in session and working for 143 days, according to GOPUSA’s blog The Loft.

That’s the equivalent of less than 21 seven-day weeks.

“After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be commander in chief, leader of the free world, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan,” Cheri Jacobus writes on the blog.

In contrast, presidential rival John McCain’s resume includes 26 years in Congress and 22 years of military service, including his 1,966 days as a POW in Vietnam.

He is too inexperienced and has too many rogues, rats and roaches in his retinue.

The funny thing about this....is that the woman writing the blog didn't do her homework.....Obama has more experience than Abraham Lincoln had when he became President.......

Re: Obama’s Senate Experience: 143 Days

Yes but compared to Washington, Obama would be a shoo-in. Or should we have Robert Byrd be president as he's been in the congress longest? Or should have McCain won the primaries back in 2000 instead of Bush as Bush had only been governor for less than 6 years at the time? This is a really dumb argument any way you phrase it.

no not really, they have about the same amount it total. Lincoln served a term in congress, had a 23 year career as lawyer were he was part of about 5,000 cases, also he played a big role in creating the Repuplican party. Along with being a person who spoke out against slavery. These allowed him to become president.

Obama served 143 days in the US senate, served in the state senate from 1997-2004, he was part of a law firm, and taught law at the university of Chicago.

Now Obama may have some more experiance than Lincoln did but still it's pretty close.

It's not who has had the most experiance it is who has had enough and shown they can lead through times of crisis. Lincoln, Washington, JFK, all showed this and Obama really hasn't been around long enough to show that he can do it.

Why don't you recite Obama's past experiences to me to substantiate your allegation that Obama hasn't been around long enough to show he can do it.

And how has McCain led through a time of crisis? Also, how did Lincoln and JFK lead in a time of crisis PRIOR to their presidency?

He served a 143 days in the US senate, served in the chicago state senate from 1997-2004, taught law at the university of Chicago, and he was a counsel to a law firm. Now that is a decent amount of experiance but in there were has he shown that he can lead in times of crisis?

That's what you come up with for his past experience? Forget I asked. You don't have the evidence to even address this question. Bye bye.
