Yes, they consist of doctors, nurses, veterinarians, business executives, project managers, legal experts, skilled trade workers, agricultural specialists, etc...you name it. In our region of the state alone we have a force of about 150+ professionals we can draw from. Volunteer organizations are a huge part of the homeland security paradigm now. What he is talking about doing is extending that somewhat.
It's very reasonable to believe we could draw up 25,000 from across the nation who would be willing to volunteer for a short stint to do something to help. Besides, in most cases while the federal government won't pay a salary they will pay for many expenses. I see this more as an emergency type of thing, very limited duration (think two to three weeks at most).
Bottom line, there are still many people willing to volunteer to help out. |
I have no problems with volunteers. I have a huge problem with yet another beuracracy.

Originally Posted by Reverend_Hellh0und So is Obama gonna create a new 2nd volunteer plan or expand this one? | Edited my post. NIMS is not an organization, it's a management plan. What I was getting at is that the concept of pulling together professional resources, paid or otherwise, in a major incident...this includes a very active volunteer community that contains professionally skilled persons.
I would imagine this would amount to a new program at the federal level, somewhere within DHS. Let's be honest though, there is no free lunch here, and given our governments ability to do anything with any semblance of fiscal responsibility I know this would be very difficult to pull off on the cheap. However, the concept is sound and has merit. Execution is a different story. |

no there is no free lunch, and each state should have a method developed on thier own for such things. not another bigger government progra,m. |

I am confused, is this topic about the government coordinating volunteers to do "good," which would require more than a FEMA assigned liaison, or volunteering though bean counting our military procurement of bouncing dam busting bombs...to give away our plans in a time of war?

"Integrate Military and Civilian Efforts: An Obama administration will build up the capacity of each non-Pentagon agency to deploy personnel and area experts where they are needed, to help move soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines out of civilian roles."
What does that have to do with "Global Stability?"
