While the crowd was indeed diverse, some students at the event questioned the practices of Mrs. Obama’s event coordinators, who handpicked the crowd sitting behind Mrs. Obama. The Tartan’s correspondents observed one event coordinator say to another, “Get me more white people, we need more white people.” To an Asian girl sitting in the back row, one coordinator said, “We’re moving you, sorry. It’s going to look so pretty, though.”
“I didn’t know they would say, ‘We need a white person here,’ ” said attendee and senior psychology major Shayna Watson, who sat in the crowd behind Mrs. Obama. “I understood they would want a show of diversity, but to pick up people and to reseat them, I didn’t know it would be so outright.”

Why does it seem that race and apearances are of the upmost importance to the Obama campaign. This consistant pattern is bothersome to me. From hiding the Muslim women to seeking more white people. The obama campaign is about racial apperance, a dog and pony show.

The first thing that popped into my mind when reading this was a vision of Clinton or McCain's people going "We need more [insert race other than white here] people!"

Trying to find flaw in flawless logic is futile.
I am sure you would rather Obama just focus on the remaining 10% of blacks that do not support him. Thankfully for our Country, Obama is not the idiot you would like for him to be. |

In the meantime, how about answering my question? Do you think that Obama's people are the only ones who handpick who gets to sit where the camera will be pointed at? |

<confesses>
Now i see that your posting about Obama's back drops and not "voters".
My response is not all that different though...
When you need white voters, white people is what you need to display.
Maybe you or I vote on issues, but most Americans do not.
They vote on appearances, feelings, and 1 liner sound bytes.
Personally, I am more curious about the 1 "token black guy" that is always seated just behind McCain.
I think its funny and wonder how much it pays to be a "token black guy", but I do not blame McCain for paying them. |
