"my experiences at princeton have made me far more aware of my blackness than ever before.I have found that at princeton no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me,i sometimes feel like a visitor on campus;as if i dont really belong.Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at princeston,it often seems as if, to them,I will always be a black first and student second"
This is interesting because for me the term "Interact with whites" seems like someone talking about talking to aliens and also she is making assumptions based purely on emotions without providing any evidence.
"In an individual's lifetime, it is necessary that the individual focus his/her interests on benefiting a limited number of things at a time because its impossible to help everyone and everthing at the same time."
So what group of people is it she is talking about here?
You can read through it yourself it seems quite clear to me she has of view of white people being almost a different species and if the same thesis was proposed from the reverse point of view it would be regarded racist. Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community

Current Mood: | Re: Michelle Obamas Princeston thesis Educated Blacks and the black community Oh, if you like that, you should read Obama's memoir.
They're two peas in a pod, Michelle and him.
They've both been more than forthcoming about their feelings on race and blackness; they've never been shy about discussing their feelings on it. Their feelings on it are well-documented, from at least college onward.
If conservatives find this sort of thing incriminating, there's enough of it for them to have a field day.
Me, I just find it interesting. It jibes with what I see. It's how I imagine I'd feel if I were black. Although I can never really know that.
I like it that they're contemplative people- thoughtful, introspective- and that they don't mind sharing their observations on human nature and on social relations.
This type of thing- how humans behave and interact, how I feel and react- is of great interest to me, and I like to hear their perspective. I could probably read stuff like that all day and not get bored.
I don't find it offensive in the least.

Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community | If you go to Princeton, don't cry to me about how you felt left out or castigated(even though its obvious that you weren't). Michelle Obama has better opportunities in front of her than I do, so forgive me if I do not exactly feel sorry for her supposed plight. There are plenty of people with real problems, this isn't one no matter how its worded.

| Michelle Obama's from the south side of Chicago. She deserves better opportunities than you. She's worked harder for them. Quote: |

| I doubt the point of it is to make you "feel sorry for her plight". The title of the thesis is Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community, not The Plight of Princeton-Educated Blacks and what Whites can do to Help Change It. Quote: |

| I disagree. I think that exerting a nearly unimaginable effort, beating every odd, working one's way into the upper echelons of society, and then discovering that because of your skin color, you'll always be a stranger in a strange land could be just a teensy bit problematic.
I don't think she expects you to do anything about it, particularly.
It sounds like her intention was merely to document a phenomenon she's noticed, for the benefit of other blacks who might encounter it in the future.
She's in a unique position to do so.
