IMO any add of this sort has a double-sided effect. The first side are the supporters of a candidate. They will see the ad for what it is and the content of the ad will reinforce their resolve in seeing their candidate elected. The other side is the less well informed voter will accept what is promoted in the ad, as truth, and vote accordingly.
There are many examples of lies being parsed to the voting public at large and I am always amazed at the amount of the ill-informed and how they are so easily manipulated by such tripe. But then again many are watching and waiting to be told what to think and what to do. DPF present company excluded of course.
