Republican Caucus Results Nevada

I really, really fear for this country if Donald Trump gets elected. It breaks my heart to see so many people buying into his nonsense. This country has hit rock bottom if people think he's the right medicine for the USA.

I don't care if he chooses me as his running mate. I will not vote for that man. I will not vote for Hillary Clinton. In a country of 300+ million people, those 2 deceitful, dishonest, out of touch, arrogant cronies are the best we have. Geezus.

Yep. Donald Trump is completely out of touch. That's why he was talking about illegal immigration and doing something about it before anyone else. He was talking about how the TPP is a bad deal before any of the other candidates. Yep. Completely out of touch.

In my lifetime, I have survived presidents Johnson and Nixon and Carter and a pair of Bush's. I have given up on the idea that if soandso gets elected, the country is in trouble. If Trump gets elected, I will go about my life much the same as I do now and wait till he leaves office. The longest it will take is 8 years, the damage he can do is limited.

What can any senator or congressman point to and say, "I did that, and that proves that I would be a competent POTUS."

Unfortunately, at this point in history, few can make credible claims of substantive achievements. The increasing ideological divide has consequences when it comes to an ability to build a record of accomplishments. Instead, one is left with rhetoric, maneuvering, and process, all of which provide much less credibility when it comes to making the case that one is capable and ready to serve as President.

The trouble Don, is that Trump is indeed a surgeon without medical experience or qualifications, but the senators/representatives/governors vying with him are like fully qualified surgeons who keep killing their patients. What gives you confidence that two junior senators, with all of 8 years senate experience between them, have the kind of maturity and experience necessary to do the top job?

IMO, the field of candidates was unusually weak this time around. One former governor (Bush) could not competently articulate a message. Another (Christie) could not credibly make a case on fiscal grounds (NJ has deteriorating finances) or the entitlement issues (NJ has alternated between not funding and substantially underfunding its pension plan). A third (Kasich) has narrow appeal despite some breadth of experience and is anything but charismatic. Cruz and Rubio are both lightly experienced that lack of experience has been apparent. Trump has exploited those weaknesses and built an advantage despite a divisive and sometimes extreme message and glaring lack of policy detail.

Cruz speaking now. Sounded like he was giving up there for a bit. Thought he was going to withdraw. But no, he goes deeper into delusion. Yep, he's the "Trump Alternative", he's now saying he's the proven conservative. Doesn't he realize that makes him the establishment politician. It's pretty clear that's the opposite of what voters want this election.

The Establishment has already made it quite clear that their preference is for Trump over Cruz (and for Rubio over Trump).

Trump with almost as many votes as Cruz and Rubio combined...in a "Hispanic" state. lol...Trump is going to be the nominee!

That's the whole idea. The mere absurdity of his candidacy will ensure Clinton's win. I may sound like a conspiracy nut, but he and Clinton are too close for comfort.

You might want to take a look at the head to head polling this morning. Trump is beating Clinton and tied with Sanders. General election polls aren't worth much at this point, but they do show Trump's star rising.

Except when he calls Kim Jong-un a slanty-eyed faggot, and there's a nuclear warhead heading straight towards Boston.

That's absurd. The same people cheering for Obama are cheering for Sanders. Why is it that so much of the criticism for Trump is completely off-base? It's ridiculous.

I didn't say cheering for Obama, they were yelling about Obama and what he does. Still do. Now we have a Trump who is just as extreme, but instead of being offended, people cheer him on.

We will see. I am hoping both Clinton and Trump won't get anywhere near the WH.

As I understand it, they cannot reach us with their technological level. If they nuke Japan, I will be pissed though, since that would destroy my hobby.

Nah though, the odds he would call any world leader something like that are slim. Trump is a lot of negative things, but he is not stupid. He did not become the hands down favorite to win the republican nomination by accident(or at least not entirely).

I agree that electing someone with no experience is a bad idea - I also agree that Obama has certainly been less effective because of his lack of political 'chops' - but I suspect those people expressing this anger and disdain for 'seasoned politicians' do so because of the undeniable and alarming incompetence of those politicians currently sitting in Congress. What precisely has Congress achieved in the last 8 years? 12 years? 20 years? What legislation has Congress initiated and implemented that has made the US a better place? Anything?

That is the thing.
Most of the Trump supporters I know feel as if the same problems exist during every election cycle.
Nothing changes.....and most definitely, nothing changes for the better.
Trump addresses middle class insecurities---job loss, border issues---in a way that no one else does.
Sure, most of his rhetoric is bombast, some of his bloviations contradict his previous bloviations, most of his solutions won't happen, but the guy doesn't mince words.
A fair amount of voters love this style.
It will be interesting, if Trump wins the presidency, to see what he can accomplish.

I have to wonder how long these alleged Trump supporters been registered republicans. Because it makes no sense to say you're opposed to many issues and politicians only to turn around and vote for someone who supported most of those things and politicians you oppose. I don't think the left would be that stupid. If a rich die hard conservative who donated to conservative candidates, and supported multiple traditional conservative positions came out and started spewing liberal beliefs and just went back and fourth on those beliefs I don't the left would fall for it.

I like the way my brother in law put it: "he says what we all are thinking. We know it won't work and probably can't be done, but it sure would be nice." Now, I don't think that way, but I have met enough people that do, that think simple solutions are best, no matter how complex the problem, and think every other country should bow down to our greatness, that I can see where Trump's style would appeal.

Her in San Antonio, next Tue may just vote for Trump as a middle finger to Cruz

Abbots endorsement is enough reason to stick it to Ted

I must thank Rush for that idea lol

How I vote in the general election will be much different

I think the electorate is not happy with the current medicine.
They are willing to try a new treatment.

Oh, c'mon...think about it....there are many positive aspects to the vice-presidency.
In a Trump administration, you'll be considered the sane one.
Down the road, you'll be the presumptive nominee.
In your future campaign, you too will be able to bombard NH with nonstop campaign ads.
I predict your fellow NH'ers will love you for these obnoxious ads and flock to the polls on your behalf.
Worked for JEB!

You think Cruz will lose in Texas?

There a little more to that I think, as in, it sure would be nice to see someone honestly try, even if they do end up failing.

The words "honest" and "Trump" really should never be even remotely close to each other.

You say that, but one of the stats from last night was that Trump won the "wants a candidate who tells it like it is" vote by a percentage in the high 70s. Stack him against Clinton who owns the liar lane and he looks as honest as can be.

Again, the guy is out politicking the politicians.

If he doesn't win decisively, like Trump did Nevada, it's a loss.

Cruz is up by 8 points according to polls here in San Antonio and we get to vote for either party, just pick up the correct ballot

Taking a lesson from Rush, the only good idea he has had lol

All the more reason for a protest vote with Trump, Cruz is self serving, always has been. Would love to slug that smile off his face, but as I will not get that opportunity this is the best way.

Would I vote for Trump in the general, not on your life.

You're missing the context. Nevada republicans said by a clear majority they wanted someone from outside the system. This is something being echoed through all the primaries thus far. Through all segments of the party. Say you're proven reminds them you're a senator, a congress critter. That's not good for any candidate this time around.

Do you know how many people actually attend caucuses? No, of course you don't because all of that information is controlled by the political party. One year in my state Pat Robertson won the Republican caucus for President. Turns out fewer people attended than frequent a small college basketball game.

No, they want a candidate who gives voice to all of their prejudices and bigotry. In that, Trump succeeds admirably. Demagogues have always had an appeal to the simple minded.

Yeah.....not that most pols aren't self-serving, but Cruz just seems much more...I dunno....obvious about it.
That perpetual smirk on his face doesn't help much, either.
