Is the GOP doing little more than exploiting the all too common ignorance, in regards to Islam and the atrocities being carried out by Daesh in Syria and elsewhere, that is characteristic of too many Americans?

Is the party exploiting xenophobia for political reasons alone? OR is it like their ranting about the liberals driving up the national debt with "socialistic" practices such as welfare and Social Security and Obamacare? A "ranting" which always disappears whenever the GOP is in the White House and "money must be spent for our defence!!!"

When a candidate begins talking about "databases for Muslims" and when asked how such a registry is different from the Jewish registry under the Nazis, his answer is: "You tell me." are we seeing the first steps toward a fascist America?

How about another candidate who said:
. . . he is open to closing “anyplace where radicals are inspired.” This includes mosques:

It’s not about closing down mosques. It’s about closing down anyplace, whether it’s a cafe, a diner, an internet site — anyplace where radicals are being inspired. The bigger problem we have is our inability to find out where these places are, because we’ve crippled our intelligence programs, both through unauthorized disclosures by a traitor, in Edward Snowden, or by some of the things this president has put in place with the support even of some from my own party to diminish our intelligence capabilities.

Are the candidates for the GOP nomination willing to say such words because they understand their base believes the First Amendment's religious freedom and free speech clauses are only applicable to those Americans of "Judeo-Christian" beliefs? These candidates are saying that America should only accept refugees who can "prove they are Christian"

The GOP Stampede Toward Fascism After the Paris Attacks

There is an odor of early fascism, or rather of the hysteria that precedes the march away from democracy, to much of this Trumpian rhetoric. An odor of the street fight. An odor of the iron fist.

It is an acrid smell, a mid-century aroma tinted with totalitarianism and historical ignorance. No society can protect its open, pluralistic politics by thoughtlessly clamping down on civil liberties. No country can seriously sustain its claim to being a beacon for human liberty if its most demagogic forces are unleashed against vulnerable, hungry, scared, and desperate refugees.

 now this is ironic. Been on a college campus lately?

Re: The GOP Stampede Toward Fascism After the Paris Attacks

Funny how some want to tarnish the entire GOP and conservatives in America because a faux Republican and a life-long supporter of Democrats and the Clintons, says stupid things in response to a loaded question from the media.

Funny how they're usually the same people who don't want Muslims or Islam to be tarnished because of the actions of a few terrorists who murder in the name of Allah.

Now, don't you microaggress him, cp, or we will call you names and shun you, so please be more careful in the future lest you utter an original thought rather than those off the list of officially sanctioned ones.

and even funnier are all those who speak of "all too common ignorance" about Islam while being the ones who don't know the first thing about it and simply say the things they say because other people say the same things while shouting down anybody who actually knows a thing or two..

You will admit, of course, that ACA, Social Security and welfare are poorly constructed and highly inefficient, won't you?

As for the First? You are right.

I do not support databases, the issuing of badges or any of that nonsense that is clearly unconstitutional. I am also not a registered republican.

The question I ask is what do you actually know about Islam? You denigrate the knowledge of others while displaying no understanding yourself, so shouldn't it be incumbent on you to open your mind, take the time to investigate what Islam actually is, and operate from a position of knowledge before accusing others?

There is an enormous chorus of nattering politically correct out there who say things simply because other people say things, and these people routinely defend Islam while attacking Christianity. I'm really not impressed, either with their ability to form an independent thought or for their ability to apply consistent standards and principles.

You mentioned free speech and freedom of religion. What do you know of Islamic attitudes in regards to both? I would be quite interested in seeing your analysis of Islamic attitudes towards blasphemy and apostasy, especially since you have accused others of ignorance.

Here is what Rachel Maddow said about Trump's muslim registration

"This would seem to be a qualitatively different kind of proposal in American politics and this will — it will be hard to see this as a natural evolution of what’s happening in the Republican party right now"

No, I think you just exposed that these candidates arent really republicans, or rather that they are politicians who say whatever people want to hear.

Two words: total crock.

The left wing's visceral hatred for anything and anyone remotely to the right of them is becoming comical - and the volumes of projection material its creating well worth the observing.

50 dems voted to stop the immigration.

Its pretty much a given that liberals that show a kneejerk need to defend Islam arent doing so because they want to defend Islam but because they hate conservatives. They simply MUST take an opposition stance to ANYTHING presented by conservatives. They dont even think about the Islamic stances on pretty much EVERY liberal concept, from gay rights to womens rights to abortion to any type of physical or sexual relationships outside of marriage to forced partnering to rights for criminals, etc. Well...OK...maybe not ALL of the rights for criminals. They DO agree that if a man rapes a woman the man shouldnt be punished...Muslims just believe that the woman deserves death for her honor while liberals believe the man...especially if it is a minority man that commits the rape, really just needs a hug and understanding and after all it is the white conservative devils that made him commit the crime so...time served and a slap on the wrist and maybe a few more billion in free government handout programs.

It's 21 degrees here, but feels like 13 degrees according to the weather people! It's downright scary that they know how 13 degrees feels, though, and I wonder if they ever make a mistake, like maybe it really should feel like 12 degrees if they were doing their job correctly!

Another day, another misuse of the fascist label.

If they were told that liking dogs was a conservative trait, they'd kick a few puppies to the curb just to make sure.

I would call these people liberals, though. They wouldn't know a liberal principle if it came up along side them and slapped them in the face. They are simply leftist authoritarians who never entertained an original thought in their lives.

Bill Maher is a liberal. These people are the ones closer to fascist when it comes to their intolerance, defense of the indefensible and the demand for absolute lockstep conformity.

Calling people you dislike names is indicative of immaturity.

Yeah, because students on some college campuses represent an entire landscape...

I guess that let's us ignore the openly xenophobic and horrific comments made by the "christian" right wing. These same psychopaths would turn away Jesus if he was a refugee.

I dare you to point out the GOP candidate who isn't being a xenophobic nut.

Name one that is expressing a fear of foreigners. Or maybe you just like the word xenophobe and dont actually know what it means. See...you are that special kind of liberal that sees someone calling for enforcement of immigration law and then pisses yourself shrieking "He hates immigrants!!!"
