“I would be a terrible candidate,”

That was two years ago. Now, he seems to have set out to prove it, and yet, he's gaining fast in the polls.

His personality is the polar opposite of Trump's: quiet and soft spoken.

yet:

Carson is now at 21 percent in the RealClearPolitics polling average, trailing Trump by only 2 points. He is second to Trump in Iowa and runs in third place — just behind Carly Fiorina — in New Hampshire. And in the third quarter of 2015, he raised $20 million, with donations coming from more than 300,000 supporters.

What is his appeal, do you think? Does he appeal to you as a candidate for POTUS?

Inexperience, poorly formed opinions on a great many social and political issues. That alone will shoots him right to the top this season.

No doesn't appeal to me at all as POTUS. On the surface he seems a likable enough guy and I think a lot of his supporters are conflating that with being a good POTUS.

Compare him to me; Meathead, Pothead; Not an athlete, out of shape athlete (but getting better); Believes in the Bible, Evangelical ministry upbringing reads some Bible, Koran, "I AM" and Hare Krishna, Chants Hare Krishna; successful Doctor, dropout, derelict, food service worker.

Is that supposed to make some kind of sense?

Well, you are welcome to speak for yourself, but when it comes to... Wait, you are speaking of Carson, are you not?

;)

This is what happens when a quote excludes all of the context.

What Carson actually said in 2013 to I think Glenn Beck...

"It is not my intention to run for office, because I would be a terrible candidate. There is no way I would get into that slime pool with all the special interest groups."

The statement was purely about party and special interest politics, the money that comes with the simple idea of running for President. Well, at least unless you are Trump and have the billions in personal wealth necessary to compete for a Presidential run.

Now, a quick review of opensecrets.org shows Carson has done rather well at fundraising and jumping in with both feet into the pool of special interests.

$31.4 million raised so far, 37% from "Large Individual Contributions." Looks like everyone (individuals within) from Northwester Mutual to Coca-Cola Co. to Wells Fargo likes the guy. I doubt all that money came with zero strings and zero expectations.

He doesn't seem the least bit presidential to me. IMO he lacks a strong enough personality. Of course I disagree with his policies as well but there have been other candidates with whom I disagreed that I still thought were "presidential".

I think he should stick to brain surgery, a field in which he DOES excel.

Never say never.
I wonder how he likes the "slime pool?"

Given what opensecrets.org is telling us (which is only what they can know about... plenty out there they will never find out about,) Carson is doing just fine playing the game he once called a "slime pool."

That should tell us all something...

Yes it should.
Now, how do we get a non slimy candidate?

3rd party? (Not exactly foolproof, but a good start in my opinion.)

Yep. Now it's up to the Republicans to see to it that a third party candidate has a fighting chance.

How?

First, nominate Trump.
Second, convince the voters that Hillary committed a crime, either in the Bengazi affair or via her private emails.

Voila, neither major party has a viable candidate!

I have my concerns on the Hillary part, she is doing better than I thought she would today. And Republicans trying to grill her on Benghazi are looking desperate, and honestly rather pathetic. Whoever helped coach / prepare her for today earned their salary and then some, I'll say that much. I'm looking forward to "round 2"... whatever that entails.

They seem to be doing a better job of the first task, getting Trump nominated. If the fail at the second, then we'll have a Democratic POTUS for the next four years.

They may not have much to work with in discrediting Hillary Clinton. Sure, she messed up in Bengazi, but all of them have messed up something if they've been in politics long enough. If they haven't been in politics long enough, then they're too inexperienced to be president.

I like many of his opinions. He was his certainly successful. His experience just isn't extensive enough, though.
