Yep Its Official.....As of late yesterday. Another Democrat has thrown his hat into the Ring. Lincoln Chaffee. What say ye?

Former Gov. Lincoln Chafee (D-RI) was scheduled to talk about foreign policy in a speech today at George Mason University. He veered off topic a bit.

So, a third Democrat has courageously stepped into the ring against far and away frontrunner Hillary Clinton. Although, in Mr. Chafee's case, Democrat may well be put in quotations. Whereas Bernie Sanders (D-VT), another 2016 contender, has no need to prove his liberal credentials, Chafee has some explaining to do considering he's changed his party affiliation three times.....snip~

He'll probably wind up the weakest among the four Democratic candidates thus far. Unlikely Clinton, O'Malley, and Sanders, he doesn't really offer a distinctive argument for his seeking the Presidency. Clinton is running based on experience and "third way moderate" governance. O'Malley is positioning himself as a youthful and progressive candidate. Sanders aims to position himself as the candidate who would use the government to create a more equal society (equal outcomes vs. equal opportunity) via tax, spending, and regulatory approaches. Chafee's seeks to portray himself as a moderate, but at least for now, that's more a label than something more concrete.

I would think so, changing party affiliation 3 times. As you can see with his announcement. He could not fill the place up at all. But he did say he wants the US to go to the Metric system.

Launching his campaign a few miles' drive from the nation’s capital, he delivered a dreamy, progressive speech emphasizing, among other things, the need to end all foreign wars, invest in public institutions and infrastructure, deliver better health care outcomes, and tackle climate change.

Bizarrely, however, Chafee also announced, as part of his campaign platform, that he is deeply committed to transitioning to...the metric system. If Canada can do it, he suggested, why can’t we?

“Let’s join the rest of the world and go metric,” he said. “Only Myanmar, Liberia, and the United States aren’t metric—and it will help our economy.”.....snip~

Upon greater review, I found a unique policy position for former Senator Chafee. However, it's not the kind that will give him much traction. If anything, it could cost him support. From Bloomberg.com:

If former Rhode Island Governor and Senator Lincoln Chafee takes the White House, history will record that his quest started a few metro stops away, on a college campus in Virginia—and that he mused about an American "rapprochement" with the Islamic state.

"You have to think that it's always possible," he told reporters after his speech at George Mason University. "ISIS is emerging. It's a phenomenon that's ever changing."

IMO, these sentiments demonstrate that he has little or no fundamental understanding of ISIS, the larger Middle East, or the nation's interests. Even yielding a few millimeters to ISIS would hurt American interests.

I would say he just showed all.....why he isn't even a consideration. But at least you can see not many even here. Have much to say about him. At least the others the DNP were looking at could make a showing. Like Jerry Brown, or Duval Patrick and Biden.

At least they will have a laugh or two in with their debates.

He hasn't got a chance. Party changing and obsessed with inconsequential topics (like the metric system) but it's good to see him in the race. Smart man.

Heya TB.

We will see if he has much to say about Hillary.....maybe that will be the new Demo Chant.

Metrics for everybody! :lamo

Lincoln Chafee May Be Hillary's Biggest Problem.....

But Chafee could prove Hillary’s most intriguing challenger. It’s not because he’ll garner enough support to give her a scare. If anyone does that, it will likely be Sanders, who according to the New York Times is already “gain[ing] momentum in Iowa.” What makes Chafee’s candidacy intriguing is that he’s attacking Hillary on the issue on which she may be most vulnerable: her vote to authorize war with Iraq.

That’s what makes Chafee’s attack intriguing. He was the only Republican senator who voted against authorizing war. Now, as a Democratic candidate for president, he will talk about the collapse of Iraq and the rise of ISIS in a way she can’t. And the way Hillary responds to him will preview her response to the Republicans next fall.....snip~

Lincoln Chafee May Be Hillary's Biggest Problem

The Atlantic really wants people to believe this.....that Chafee could be a problem for Hillary. Now while she can be attacked on her Iraq vote. They are truly making more out of whats there. As I doubt Chafee will attack her over Big Banks. Now do I think we will hear him elaborating on her and the Foundation. What say ye?

Chafee is a Republican in the mold of Bush-43.
The only people who want Chafee to be a problem for Clinton are Republicans as they define themselves today .

Bernie is not a Democrat and likely never will be. Chafer won't get within .914 meters of the nomination. Rhode Island is just a little bit different.

Which party does Sanders caucus with?
Who has he voted for in the past for Majority Leader?
How do his votes line up with other DEM Senators?

And just today, do you think Sanders agreed with what Clinton had to say about GOP voter suppression laws ?

And yet he is not a Democrat. I was correcting the (D-VT) in the OP.

Sanders may not win the nomination, but he will ELEVATE the discussion on ALL fronts on the ISSUES.
GOP, DEM, and whatever folks want to call themselves.
He will bring millions of new voters into the process, something quite underestimated--just like Rand Paul.

He may attack you in a speech, but he says he's never run a negative ad--I'm sure if he was lying, he'd have been called out already.
I don't agree with him on everything, but he's tapped an economic populist vein that even Santorum and other GOPs are trying to mimic .

Mornin AHS. :2wave: Yeah we know. But you didn't think the left would know much about him did ya?. Nor even have anything up that's political about him. At least not our resident lefties here at DP.

Its one of their ongoing conditions. They always come light to the game.

Chafee: ‘Too many ethical questions’ surround Hillary.....

Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee's (D) presidential candidacy is less than 24 hours old, and he's already doing something no other Democratic challenger has: directly bashing front-runner Hillary Clinton's ethics. During a Thursday morning interview on CNN’s “New Day,” Chafee laid out a litany of ethics allegations that have followed Clinton throughout her career.

"It’s a long record going back over decades of questionable ethical practices. People groan when I bring up Whitewater and all these things, the Rose Law Firm records; it seems like it never stops," Chafee said, mentioning issues from Clinton’s time as first lady. "Now, we are into the tenure of secretary of State and the emails and of course the Clinton Foundation donations at the same time the State Department is making critical decisions, combined with some of those donations by the Clinton Foundation. It's just too close and too many ethical questions."

"Over my 30-year record in public office, I've never had any ethical questions about my behavior," Chafee, who has served as a governor, senator and local politician, said.....snip~

Chafee:

Now that's what needs to be done by Sanders and O'Malley. All of them.....talking about how she can't be trusted to do the Right thing.

Heya RV. :2wave: I think he sees now what he needs to do. Going after Hillary is what will get him the headlines.

No. Not when having the Coast Guard fight AGW is obviously paramount. Guy's a loser.

Yeah, the Demos wont be nominating this guy.

Nah, he uses metrics.

And all before Iowa. Chafee has the makings of being the clown of the 2016 candidates.

Cmon now.....no one can take Trump's Revlon make up away. Just sayin!

I heard a Trump add on the radio yesterday. He's running I think. He has about $4 billion of his own, but who in their right mind would donate? Reminds me of Gary Busey.
