Oh no.....not again!!!!! :doh

Mitt Romney held meetings with donors in New York this week that left one attendee convinced he is running for president again in 2016. A member of Romney's inner circle who spoke to Business Insider said the former governor of Massachusetts traveled to New York City on Monday where he met with key financial backers of his past campaigns to lay the groundwork for a 2016 White House bid.

The source, who was at one of the meetings, said other attendees included developer Stephen Ross, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, and hedge funders Julian Robertson and Paul Singer. A representative for Romney did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the meetings from Business Insider.....snip~

I said it here and was laughed out.

As Henry Kissinger once said, " Power is the great aphrodisiac." I could easily see Romney being drafted after all the wild shots have had their 15 minutes. People like Carson will fall out long before 2016. Romney already has a team that could easily reassemble.

I still stay with my belief that he will be the candidate.

Greetings, MMC. :2wave:

Both sides sure do enjoy spin, don't they? Keeps things from getting boring....He was probably just discussing what companies he should buy next, but it does cause consternation from some quarters. Who should they demonize next? :lamo:

No more! No mo-euuurrgh!

You have to admit, it is highly unusual for a confirmed failed candidate to give it another shot.

I'm pretty sure the only person who's ever won under those conditions is Nixon...

Some others in the GOP think he will throw his hat into the ring too.

I think Romney will play it out as long as he can to avoid the left looking to Demonize him early like BO peep did.

Like Hillary, he has said he's not interested. We shall see. IMO, a businessman in the top job is needed, though. We'll see what the kingmakers in the inner circle think....it's still two years away.

After the State of the Union and the First Quarter, is when they will need to jump out there.....due to the Media and advertising. Santorum was saying he would wait until June. If he does he will be starting late.

Especially after the Obama presidency. Only a businessman in the Oval Office will be able to undue the damage Obama has done to the US economy.

Exactly what Republicans need... more relics running for office. :2brickwal

Hi there Pol, and you are right, its spin.

This is what's known as taking the used car for a test drive. Some people with money see Obama's weakness and think..."if only..."

So they meet, he gives nice face for a couple of hours and leaves them thinking he's run...

THEN, they sit back and see the reaction. They have probably already polled and want to see what kind of lift they get from the rumor and if it's good, they'll send up some more trial balloons and see if there is real money behind the interest.

His winning the nomination would be a disaster for the country. If he did win, I will remove my prediction that Hillary will never be president...in fact I think Biden could beat him.

They only know how to raise money, not run an effective campaign.

Well we do need to be careful.....as in Bowling, 3 Strikes = a Turkey!. :2razz:

In bowling, any self respecting Pollack will tell you, three strikes is a Good thing. it's baseball and you're out. I doubt Romney will make to bat.

That's all he has. Al Gore another.

Elect me, I'm rich.

Funny thing it, here the rich don't stand a chance of getting elected. But then we have always punished them when they lie to us. See Brian Mulroney in wiki....the most hated man in Canada....

and we're "polite"...

:agree:

BHO was beatable, as any politician is, but Romney apparently forgot what he learned as Governor of Massachusetts, and how vicious politics can be, and he ran an inept campaign for POTUS, although in retrospect his was far more honest as people have learned. I just don't think he'll get the backing he needs from the voters if he tries to run again, so I hope for his, and his family's sake, he doesn't enter the ring this time. Whatever.... I'm certain he would make a fine cabinet member in any one of many areas, but I don't know if his background and ego could handle that.

I do not think there is enough love shall I say among the Republicans for him to win in 2016. In 2012 in the general he did get a lot of Republicans to vote for him only because he wasn't Obama. The problem in 2016 is Obama will not be running again. In 2012 quite a lot of Republicans were looking for someone else besides Romney, that is why one candidate after another became their favorites or poster boys, Bachman, then Perry, followed by Cain and Gingrich. Most Republicans were searching for someone else.

Romney won the nomination because he spent 5-10 times as much money as all the other candidates combined and he had an organization in place from 2008.

He still has to get over the perception that he has no actual beliefs other than he should be President.

Mittens in the 2012 campaign would say almost anything to anyone just to get their vote. At least you knew what Obama believed. When Mittens changed his tune sometimes within the same day depending on who he talked to, it's not a sign he really believes anything.

Especially after the Obama presidency. Only a businessman in the Oval Office will be able to undue the damage Obama has done to the US economy.

This is a myth.

Generally CEOs are used to dealing with a few people, namely a board of directors. A president has stunningly little actual power compared to a CEO, and especially a CEO who holds a sizable amount of shares. A CEO can essentially change policy and actually enact that policy quickly. A President has to deal with Congress.

Furthermore, many government functions exist because the market fails at certain activities. Running them as profit centers ignores why they exist in the first place.

Finally, Bush ran a number of businesses. How did we turn out under him? Also, Bush and Obama are basically the same President.

Romney got hamstrung by the GOP primary system. He had to abandon most if not all of his positions as the former Governor of Massachusetts to adopt wildly different views. And then he had to drop those views to compete in the general election. All of that cast Romney as a candidate who really didn't believe much of anything other than an opportunist. I don't think Romney was honest at all. If you're honest, you don't willingly ditch your core beliefs just to temporarily adopt someone else's and then ditch those for someone else's. If you think Romney was honest, then you must think that Bill Clinton was a principled leader who never changed his beliefs because Romney waffled way more than Clinton. It was part that he ran a bad campaign, but it was also that the primary to general election system forced Romney into a multitude of bad situations he couldn't get out of.

I agree. Romney dropped his core values and beliefs to run for president and thus earned this the title of Governor flip flop. The Republican base didn't have the energy or enthusiasm for him and a lot of those only voted for him because he wasn't Obama. Even here it Georgia, it was strange to see more Paul and Gingrich bumper stickers than Romney ones as the election approached. I don't know about other states, but most Georgian's didn't trust him although enough voted for him for Romney to win Georgia.
