I just read a report in a german paper that details donations mounting up to at least 2 million euros given to candidates in the current US elections by German buisnesses. The report also heavily critizes that behavior.

This really shocked me alot. Receiving campain donations from any foreign organisation in Germany, would disqualify that candidate from the race and is even a punishable offense.

So why is it legal in the US?

Personally I see no reason why a foreigner should not give money for a campaign, if it is fully disclosed and published publicly. As a matter of fact, there are definite advantages.
