The end of affirmative action?

Agreed, so stop pretending that they belong to different 'races'. It only reinforces the supposition that skin shade indicates other fundamental differences.
Whatever you call it, people of other races have in many cases been subject to systemic discrimination, and affirmative action is an effort to address ad correct that

The biological aspects are irrelevant, the lack of biological difference is irrelevant as far as legal and social factors go

well, the only problem in your argument is that there is no merit involved with race... there is merit involved with athletics, and even a bit involved with legacy admissions ( thought i'm cool if we get rid of those as well)

athletic skill isn't something folks come out of the womb with.. it's worked at for years, and is wholly earned.
we can't say the same about race at all

I deserve nothing because of the color of my skin... I don't, because of my skin pigment, deserve to be treated better or worse than anyone else.
supporting AA and racial preferences is simply saying that skin pigment should be used to determine a persons worth ,how they are treated, and future worth.
at it's very core, AA is racist and detrimental to society

If colleges are about academic learning - athletics is just a side show activity and should not be the criteria for admission.

something tells you you are the type to never do very well in competitive sports....

do you think the olympics should be banned or discontinued also?

should everyone just sit around the dorm, and become couch potatoes?

athletics just like almost everything else in life, has it's place

and not everyone can compete for the scholastic scholarships....so for others, we have athletics....just another way for some to get an education

why do the military academies REQUIRE that their students compete in one athletic endeavor or another? do you know?

because building the body and mind together builds a better person....period

I love athletics and agree that they do great things for a person.

My point is a simple and uncomplicated one: I DO NOT want to hear all the self serving pious BS about unqualified minorities getting into colleges through affirmative action when they do not measure up on things like the ACT or SAT test. If those tests are going determine admissions - so be it and lets stick to that......... FOR EVERYONE.

athletics is the ONE place where your race has NOTHING to do on whether or not you are recruited

colleges want to win....they focus on winning....they bring in the BEST athletes in every sport to try and help them win

it is as simple as that

doesnt matter if you are brown, yellow, black, red, or white

when i was recruited to play football....that was told to us players, and our parents

they were going to play the best players....not the ones whose parents gave the most money, or the ones who had legacy

athletics is on an even keel....one of the reasons i have always loved them

raw real competition.....

yes....the Alabama's of the world get better players than other universities

but in the end, it is usually 11 on 11, or 5 on 5, or mano on mano

tennis, field hockey, soccer, golf, baseball, football, basketball, swimming, diving, track & field

and the list continues

that is a LOT of students getting an education through athletics that may or may not get one any other way

yes , I agree with many of the points you make.

I wish the democrats would let it go and just let everyone be Americans. All the racial politics, divisive rhetoric, and demagoguery has done nothing to bring the country together. Isn't that what a leader is supposed to do?
