I love athletics and agree that they do great things for a person.
My point is a simple and uncomplicated one: I DO NOT want to hear all the self serving pious BS about unqualified minorities getting into colleges through affirmative action when they do not measure up on things like the ACT or SAT test. If those tests are going determine admissions - so be it and lets stick to that......... FOR EVERYONE.
athletics is the ONE place where your race has NOTHING to do on whether or not you are recruited
colleges want to win....they focus on winning....they bring in the BEST athletes in every sport to try and help them win
it is as simple as that
doesnt matter if you are brown, yellow, black, red, or white
when i was recruited to play football....that was told to us players, and our parents
they were going to play the best players....not the ones whose parents gave the most money, or the ones who had legacy
athletics is on an even keel....one of the reasons i have always loved them
raw real competition.....
yes....the Alabama's of the world get better players than other universities
but in the end, it is usually 11 on 11, or 5 on 5, or mano on mano
tennis, field hockey, soccer, golf, baseball, football, basketball, swimming, diving, track & field
and the list continues
that is a LOT of students getting an education through athletics that may or may not get one any other way
