True Debate Rules and Guidelines

These are rules and guidelines that are specific to True Debates only. Additional rules and guidelines may be imposed for individual debates at the request of the participants. .

1. Debates will last for two weeks, unless the participants deem the debate is finished beforehand OR Caine or I are contacted about an extension. All debates will start on either Sunday or Monday.

2. Participants are allowed one post per day, unless an additional post is required due to character limits. Participants may not post their next argument until their opponent has had a chance to post a rebuttal.

3. All sources must be free for everyone to access. We would prefer that members not have to sign up at a site in order to view content; however, as long as the content is still free, it's permissible. Lexis Nexis is not an acceptable source as it is not easily accessible to everyone. Participants may decide if sources that are not available online (books, etc) are permissible.

4. Discussion threads for the debates are not to be used by the participants to post additional arguments.

5. Topics must somehow be political in nature. This is, after all, Debate Politics.

6. Members must have a minimum of 50 posts in order to participate in a True Debate. This allows newer members to get their feet wet in the other forums and become familiar with the forum as a whole, as well as other members.

7. Please try to already have an opponent lined up. A debate cannot be scheduled until there are two participants, and we are not going to find an opponent for you. If you post in the sign up thread and don't already have an opponent, you may get lucky and someone will post that they are interested in opposing you. If that doesn't happen, though, it is your responsibility to seek out an opponent. Once an opponent is found, please PM Caine so he can start setting up the debate. If you don't hear back from him within 24 hours, please PM me. Please also note that only one debate will be scheduled at a time. First come, first served.

8. All regular forum rules apply.
