NFL Draft Thread

Alright, so the NFL draft starts this Saturday, so what are your thoughts?

We know that the Dolphins have already signed Jake Long, OT out of Michigan, like 5 years, $57.5 million $30 million guaranteed. So he's gonna be the number 1 pick. What do you think's gonna happen with the Rams at #2? Rams seem pretty big on Glenn Dorsey, but the Saints and Jets each seem interested in trading up, Saints for either Chris Long or Glenn Dorsey, the Jets for Darren McFadden.

The consensus #1 quarterback on the board is Matt Ryan of Boston College. He may go as high as 3rd overall to the Atlanta Falcons.

My team is obviously the Bears, at 14th overall. I think the offensive tackle has got to be where they go, Otah out of Pitt, Chris Williams out of Vanderbilt, Ryan Clady out of Boise State seem to be the most likely picks.

Just trying to get some general draft discussion going, so whatever about it you want to talk about...

I have to agree with your assessments. I am not too sure what the Bears should do in later rounds. There's a lot of holes that need patched.

Depending on how it pans out, either Chad Henne, Joe Flacco, or Brian Brohm should be available, and a lot of people suggest we take one of them. I'd take Joe Flacco if he's still there (probably won't be) but I think we've got to commit to Kyle Orton as the guy, when Grossman was getting worse over the last 2 years Orton was studying under Brian Griese and getting in better shape. I don't think QB is a pressing need.

As I see it outside of the O-line the biggest needs are receiver, safety, and running back, in that order. If Malcom Kelly is still around when our second round pick comes around we should definitely take that, maybe pawn off one of our third round picks to move up and get him. Earl Bennet from Vanderbilt's another guy. 3rd round should go to either offensive guard or safety, depending on what's available, maybe both, and if there's a really great value at running back take him, same with 4th round (unless there's a real value at running back available). By the 5th round I'd hope the Bears had picked at least 1 OT, OG, WR, S, and RB.

I agree galen. The O-Line is old and porous. No quarterback or running back will ever thrive behind that wall of Jello. They also need a fast quality receiver to take some coverage pressure off Olsen, and an actual 'running-back' to compliment their high priced power-back.

Re: NFL Draft Thread

I'm just waiting to see which wide receiver my Lions take this year.

I'm loving the Dolphins' move since I'm a U of M alumnus.

I seriously do not see Blank taking a QB. They need a front 7 like all hell. They've given up thirty million rushing yards over the past four years.

Your Bears need a wide out like whoa.

You've got a fair point. Now you could say that Joey Harrington and Byron Leftwich have just underperformed, but at least with Harrington, he's never had an offensive line. Detroit, Miami, Atlanta, he's never been given a chance. Leftwich didn't have much of a shot in Atlanta, but seeing as what Gerrard's been able to do there is evidence that he wouldn't do much with a chance if he was given one.

Mark Bradley's really underrated, he's been hurt a lot, and Berrian only emerged because of Bradley's injuries, in early '05 it looked like Bradley was gonna be that guy. He still could be. I don't know if Hester's ever gonna be a #1 receiver, but I could see him evolve into a damn good #2 without sacrificing his punt return abilities. Marty Booker's gonna be cool to have back also. I agree, though, that we really need a #1 WR.

And I should mention, Tashah's analysis was 100% spot on.

Re: NFL Draft Thread

I think the falcon's may be happy with going with Redman (i think is his name) one more year and go for a defensive guy this time out.

Jake Long is a good pick for th Dolphins. They didn't need a RB, and Ryan is a good QB but not really a "#1 QB pick money" QB. I'm a Wahoo at heart, so i'd love to see Chris Long go #1 but they need to sure up that O-line first and foremost.

I have NO clue what my Skin's are going to be doing in this draft. Hell, I don't know what I'm going to do. I think we have more draft picks this year then the past 3 years combined, or close to it. Though we are trying to shop that 1st rounder around like a $3 whore. I have a feeling we may go for a tall reciever in round 1 if we can't get rid of it, though no clue who may be there at that ponit.

Dude, it's kind of hard to take the Redskins seriously after how they've conducted themselves this offseason. Like a month into the offseason they had like a couple thousand dollars left under the cap, meaning every dime they spend in the draft they have to cut off their roster, and now they're doing the exact same **** they did with Lance Briggs last year, anywhere there's discontent there's the Redskins offering their first round pick to take the problem off your hands, this year already with Chad Johnson and Boldin in Arizona.

I'd imagine they'd like to go receiver, Jason Campbell is really good but needs more weapons than just Santana Moss. Other than that the Redskins are a young, developing (albeit fiscally unsustainable) and very talented team, I wouldn't be surprised if they went to the playoffs again this year.

Re: NFL Draft Thread

As a Cowboy fan AND a Razorback fan, I'd love to see McFadden or at least Felix Jones have a star on their helmet next year... especially since Julius Jones went to the Seahawks in the offseason and there's no evidence that Marion Barber can pull the load during the entire season...

BUT, the Cowboys needs are in their secondary which SUCK and they need another receiver...

I don't know what to think about their OL considering they played pretty good during the season last year but couldn't keep the NY Giants off Romos *** in the playoffs...

Re: NFL Draft Thread

I really don't know what the Packers are going to look for. They are in pretty good shape all around(outside of losing Favre). I think they should look at a DB to groom under the aging but effective Charles Woodson, and maybe a TE and cut Bubba Franks.
