Why the hell don't we do this??!!






The haka refers to an array of traditional dances done by the Maori, who are indigenous to New Zealand. Perhaps the most well-known variety is a sort of war-dance/war-taunt traditionally done before battle to get everyone psyched up to go kick *** while intimidating the opposing combatants if they are in view.

That's just fricken awesome. That makes me want to go watch a Rugby match.

Yeah the Haka is awesome. It really does have an affect on the opposition. Then New Zealand screw it up for themselves by buckling under the pressure, like they almost always do. Every World Cup they are favourites, they have only won it once.

It's a very common thing back home in the Utah Valley. Its a polyniesian thing and the BYU football team does it quite a bit(about a third of the players are polynesian). Its quite a surreal experience to have a saturday "flag" football game and during the week your friends are like this

and then come Saturday they do the Haka and go all warrior on you.

I'll take a shot in the dark and say because our football players have self respect and there is nothing that intimidates your opponent more then 250 pounds of pure muscle charging straight at you.

The Haka / wardance isn't just a Maori tradition though - many of the other polynesian islanders have their own version.

As Garza says, New Zealand are pretty awesome between World Cups - making mincemeat out of whoever the current World Cup holders are but they just can't repeat this when it comes to the big tournaments.

The French lined up and stared down the haka during the last meeting - and there were calls that they showed disrespect.... which I found funny. Respect would be standing back and being cowed into submission by the haka?

Would be difficult to do the Haka wearing all that body armour... or just very funny viewing for the opposition.
